Very long feedback to help the hotel improve as it is almost there but not quite.
Excellent service from Lucas and Daniel, the reception team from door to counter were all smiles when we entered and took care of all our requests e.g. taking care of luggage, getting us water, arranging the spa services. They also checked us in once the room was ready though we were prepared to wait.
Housekeeping was great as well, very clean rooms and attended to our request for more toiletries almost immediately.
Spa service was comfortable but not perfect. I went on 11 Apr at 11.30 am. Massage and scrub was excellent but they did not seem to note the areas to avoid though they gave us a form to indicate. Herbal steam was basically a Herbal sauna room. Tina served my partner and she was satisfied but the one serving me did not do a proper facial and kept wiping my face and got the serum into my eyes and lips with very little facial massage technique. I think they used a packet sheet mask for the facial, so it's not really worth getting a facial here. Perhaps she thinks I'm new to facials. We went for the King of Soleil package and guests get 20% off so it was like 80SGD per pax for 3 hours. Much needed rest and relaxation after our eventful train ride from Sapa.
Kitchen staff were accommodating but a little less friendly, could improve on a warm greeting for guests and guiding hotel guests to what they need. The staff checking the name list seems aloof, a Good Morning will be good. Communication was not easy as I was requesting a salted egg but they pointed me to the sauce area but they got me what I needed eventually. The young staff a boy and a girl seems very understanding and helped me out earnestly, wanted to get their names but they are off from duty. Thank you for taking care of me during lunch especially since I was unwell.
A big thank you from Yvonne and I! We will come back again definitely, looking forward to the...
Read moreWhat can I say? Everything about this hotel lived up to expectations. Staff are super courteous from the bell hop to bar staff. The rooms were comfortably small (as is a boutique hotel) with a nice shower room. Toiletries were supplied free of charge. There are large windows in the corridor as you walk to your room giving you great views of the world outside. Even with all the roads and traffic, we didn't hear a thing. A fast lift takes you swiftly between the 10 floors. Floor 10 has the sky bar and pool (up an extra set of stairs, so technicallyfloor 11). The pool, while small, is very welcoming after a day's sightseeing. The bar is attached so you can order drinks without getting out. Towels are supplied but you'll need to ask the bar staff for them. There is a toilet (yes frosted glass door, all the rage in Nam) and a separate shower/changing room. There are only 3 sun loungers and most people shared 1 per couple which was great. Up a further set of stairs is the seating area where the staff will bring you drinks as you enjoy the distant lightning or the crazy streets below. Drinks are a little pricey (relative to local bar) but you're paying for the views and service. Floor 1 has the buffet breakfast which has a wide selection of foods but not tailored massively towards the western style (but you're not in the west so quit whingeing). You won't go hungry at all and do try the little cakes....yum! Overall the rooms are clean and tidy and the pillows are super nice. You are 2 minute walk from train street, 20 minutes walk into the old quarter, 5 minutes from the Hoa Lo prison and close to other sites too if you like walking. We walked to the hotel after catching the number 86 from the airport. If you take the train, you could walk it too. Best hotel I've stayed in thus...
Read moreI'm glad everyone else who reviewed this hotel had a positive experience (maybe/maybe not) at the Soleil, We didn't. We never checked in. That's because the hotel didn't honor our reservation through booking.com (Premier Twin with 2 twin beds / 30m²). They wanted us to accept a smaller room with a queen bed and roll-away bed for two adult men (Classic 18m²). We took a look at the room. There was no place to walk. The women who showed us the room lied by telling us it was the 30m² sized. It was not, and it wasn't very nice looking either. They offered us a discount of 200000 dong (less than 10 dollars US for a two night stay) for use to accept it, but that was the regular price of the smaller room anyway, and only if we would cancel the reservation through booking.com as well. If I would have accepted this, the hotel would have made an extra money - approximately 15 to 20% by not having to pay booking.com. I would never cheat anyone including a company like Booking.com that has always been of great value and good service to me. Then they had the additional gall to tell me I had to cancel the reservation through booking.com not them - they wouldn't cancel it. It was the only way they would waive the one day cancellation fee booking.com would charge me. I am so happy my travel-mate Si found a great hotel in a better location. If I was you, I would take a close look at the number of reviews the previous reviewers have made. Same thing with their reviews on booking.com. It's an indication of the veracity of the reviews. I feel foolish for not seeing...
