Quick review: I had a wonderful stay at Harmony Saigon Hotel and would still give it a 5 star. Just a few things to consider such as a firm spring bed, slippery bathtub, and lack of sound insulation.
As I arrived in my Grab, one of the doormen rushed down to help grab my luggage out of the trunk of the car and bring it all the way in. He guided me over to the reception where the check-in process was quick and simple. I arrived early so the receptionist asked me to sit at the lobby lounge and brought a complementary non-alcoholic mixed drink and some snacks. It was delicious! Once my room was ready, I was led to the elevator and up to my room by one of the staff.
The staff opened the door and helped bring my luggage inside as well as show me where all the controls and buttons were to operate various lights, the TV, and the A/C were at. My room had a large sitting bench and table for me to do my work at. It had a side couch and also enough lights to nicely brighten the room up. One thing I especially liked was that they included quite a few items for free in the minibar. The room also had a true king size bed (you'll notice many places in Vietnam advertise a certain size but it's actually 1-2 sizes below). The bed was a traditional spring bed on the firmer side and not that comfortable. It had a removable cushion top to help but I could still feel the springs and woke up with back pain.
The walls of the rooms are razor thin. I myself am a heavy sleeper and also snore like a freight train so it didn't really affect me but I feel sorry for my neighboring guests. During the day time, I could clearly hear and even make out the exact words they were saying in conversations. I wouldn't mention this if it was muffled as that is normally the case but I was astonished when I could hear them talk about their day's itinerary.
The restroom was clean. The toilet and tub were a bit dated and showed it's age (toilet handle needed to be pressed further down and pushed in order to flush) but perfectly usable. My room has the bathtub which I put to use with a relaxing soak. However, the bathtub needs to be replaced. The bathtub is too high for most people to step over and into and there were no railings to hold onto while getting in and out. To make it worse, the tub floor was very slippery even without water yet. After taking a shower and having a wet floor, I would have to take even cautious getting out. I can't see how elderly folks would use this without getting severely hurt.
The included breakfast was AMAZING! All the food was delicious, fresh, and tons of flavor. You may want to eat all the food that the city has to offer but don't pass on this hotel's breakfast. At least come for a few light bites before heading out.
Overall a wonderful stay here as many of these nuisance did not affect me personally. If the hotel updates some of these issues, I could see it being a perfect choice for everyone to stay at!

Read moreWe had a room without a view but I’m surprised that people are saying there is a lot of natural light. The wall is 2 feet away and much taller than the hotel so very little natural light gets in. The room itself is very dimly lit. I was unable to do my make up due to the lack of light. Because there are tiny pot lights in the ceiling 4-5 meters apart there are large areas of the rooms that are not lit. Photo below of the bed was taken at 11am and is a good representation of what it’s like. The middle of the bed is just in shadow. Unless you’re standing directly under a pot light it’s quite dark.
I asked the front desk for more lighting but they only had small desk lamps. What the hotel needs are floor lamps or installing twice as many potlights at least. The bathroom was even darker than the bedroom and it was hard to see enough to do my make up in here too. See photos.
Breakfast was yummy with lots of variety.
Biggest plus is that it’s quiet on the 11th floor.
Edit: i changed the star rating from 2–1 because more things started becoming apparent during our stay. The shower doors do nothing to keep the water in the shower so our bathroom floor was flooded.
There’s no conditioner. No towel hooks in the sink area.
We’ve stayed at home stays and airbnbs and five star hotels across Vietnam and this is definitely the worst room we have encountered while being the second most expensive.
Also looking through other reviews, the water leaking problem seems to be longstanding. Despite their comments about taking feedback seriously, it looks like they’ve had issues with the 11th floor flooding previously and many complaints about leaking shower doors.
Edit: After seeing the review the hotel upgraded us to the executive suite. There were much larger windows and better sunlight into the rooms. There was also a jacuzzi which was nice. However the lighting issues remained as the executive suite also had the same spotlight type pot lights every 4 meters. Again, large parts of the room remained in shadow. The sink also did not drain properly in this room.
The hotel needs better light fixtures.
I changed the service to 5 stars because the service truly was...
Read moreThis is my second stay at The Harmony. The 1st was in 2017 & now in 2024. I stay here because it has an undercover pool & is centrally located to all of the major tourist attractions within district one. The breakfast is very comprehensive & caters to basically all nationalities although if you want Vegemite you may be ☹️ (maybe / maybe not) The room I was allocated on the 11th floor was adequate for purpose having all the basic amenities; aircon, hairdryer, some complimentary toiletries. Part of my deal with booking dot com was a ' free ' mini bar ( 2x cans of beer a day if you drink them + water replenished, again, if you drink them.) The Harmony ticks all the boxes for those visiting HCM City for a few days & you could do a lot worse. There is a Circle K right next door & a Pharmacy about 100 metres away should you require medications for minor ailments like headache or a touch of the wobbly belly! My only gripe this time around is when I came to the pool today there were no towels available. When I asked the girl at the spa section if the towels were going to be replenished she was unsure & suggested that I bring one from my room. This is not what I expect from a hotel of this standard. A quick call to housekeeping should be enough & as a repeat customer I do not think I should need to bring my room towel. On a positive note, the hotel have offered me a free ride to the airport upon my departure so all is not lost vis a vie their reputation. Vietnam is still learning how to accommodate tourists & it is a beautiful place to visit. This is my 3rd visit & each time I see improvements in their organisational skills when it comes to tourism. My gripe is minor & I do not want anyone to be put off coming to this hotel. The staff are lovely & I would certainly recommend the hotel as a base for your visit. Footnote, as I was about to post this review one of the management staff happened by & I asked about the towels. She quickly got on the phone to find out why there were none. Almost immediately 2 towels were delivered to my sun bed....
