This is my 3rd time in HCM and 3rd hostel I've tried. With the previous 2 experiences, I didn't expect much of the hospitality I can get at a hostel in HCM as compared to other cities in Vietnam. However, the staff here provided great hospitality.
If you get a private room or any room that's on level 1 and 2, they probably are more sound proof. I got the dorm room at level 3, which is not sound proof and they are probably doing renovation in a few months time.
The staff Len who works here is very very helpful and friendly. Before checking in, (I did a walk in, didn't make reservation) she warned me that it would be really loud at night since it's located in the middle of bui vien Street (beer street). The noise gets muffled a little since it's in the alley and not on the main street but it is still pretty loud especially if you are very sensitive to sound. The noise lessened after around 11pm. I still managed to get a good sleep regardless.
Len also gave local food recommendations (her own fave) and offered me free coffee when I asked about cafes. She also offered to send me to the bus station the next morning. She speaks good English and very willing to share her experiences and about Vietnam.
Besides the noise at night,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStayed at Lilyās Hostel on our first night in Vietnam for 2 nights in a private room. (husband and I, in our 30s).
We arrived very late at approximately midnight and the nice host was there to welcome us to our room, which was great as we thought we may have to sleep on the street for the night.
We were in the top floor which required us to go up many sets of stairs. The host assisted us with the luggage, however it wasnāt ideal so if you are travelling with big suitcases or cannot walk up stairs, maybe request a lower floor if possible as also going up and down to get water etc was a little of a hassle.
The room overall is very clean. The bathroom is a little old however it is an older building by the looks of it.
Even though this accommodation is on walking street (where the clubs are at), we didnāt find it very loud at all. We were able to walk to many places as the location is pretty good.
There is also a laundry service...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stayed at Lily's Hostel for three nights in January 2020.
The hotel is located a stone throw from the main backpacking street. This road can be best described as a neater version of Bangkok's Khaosan Road, and does mean there is quite a bit of external noise. That said, the hotel is well located for HCMC's main bus station for connections to the airport and many of the key attractions such as War Remnant Museum and the Reunification Palace.
The room was quite tired and could have done with a freshen up. The bed, however, was one of the most uncomfortable I've ever stayed on - not just hard, but noisy and lumpy. The curtains are hopeless and we resorted to pinning them together with safety pins in order to minimise the light coming in.
Overall it was an acceptable place to stay, however it could certainly do...
