Here’s a detailed 4-star review for the restaurant based on the attached invoice, taking into account the language barrier:
A Delightful Dining Experience at Lùa Đài Việt - Đệ Thẩm – 4 Stars I recently dined at Lùa Đài Việt - Đệ Thẩm, located at 189-191-193 Dương Bá Trạc, Phường 1, Quận 8, Hồ Chí Minh City, Việt Nam, and I must say it was a wonderful experience overall, despite a slight language barrier. My visit on May 10, 2025, left me with a great impression of their food and ambiance, though communication could use a little improvement. The restaurant has a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a casual meal. I arrived around 12:50 AM, as noted on the receipt, and was seated promptly despite the late hour. The staff, led by our server Nguyễn Hoàng, were polite and attentive, though I did notice that language was a bit of a challenge. I’m not fluent in Vietnamese, and while the staff tried their best to communicate, there were moments where I struggled to understand the menu or make specific requests. A bilingual menu or a staff member more comfortable with English would have made the experience smoother, but their warm smiles and eagerness to help made up for it. Now, onto the food – the highlight of the night! I ordered three dishes: “Gỏi Củ Hủ Dừa” (Coconut Shoot Salad), “Tôm Thịt Hù Dưa” (Shrimp and Pork with Pickles), and “Mì Xào Giòn Hải Sản” (Crispy Seafood Noodles). Each dish was priced reasonably, with the total coming to 704,000 VND for the meal. The Coconut Shoot Salad (252,000 VND) was fresh and vibrant, with a perfect balance of tangy and savory flavors. The crunch of the coconut shoots paired beautifully with the herbs and dressing – a great start to the meal. The Shrimp and Pork with Pickles (237,000 VND) was another winner; the shrimp was succulent, and the pork was tender, with the pickles adding a delightful zing that cut through the richness. Finally, the Crispy Seafood Noodles (215,000 VND) were a treat – the noodles were perfectly crispy, and the seafood was fresh, though I would have loved a bit more seasoning to elevate the dish further. Portion sizes were generous, and the presentation was simple yet appetizing. Everything tasted authentic and well-prepared, showcasing the flavors of Vietnamese cuisine beautifully. The meal felt like a great value for the price, and I left feeling satisfied and happy with my choices. The service, aside from the language barrier, was prompt – I was in and out within about 40 minutes (from 12:50 AM to 1:29 AM, as per the receipt). The restaurant was clean, and the overall vibe was relaxed, making it a great spot for a late-night bite. I also appreciated the transparency of the receipt, which included all the details of my order and the total amount. Overall, I’d give Lùa Đài Việt - Đệ Thẩm a solid 4 stars. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The only reason I’m not giving it a full 5 stars is the language barrier, which made communication a bit tricky at times. If they could offer a bilingual menu or have staff more comfortable with English, it would make the experience even better for international visitors like myself. That said, I’d definitely return to try more dishes and recommend this spot to anyone looking for authentic Vietnamese flavors in Hồ...
Read moreThe atmosphere was hectic being right next to a junction where a lot was going on with the traffic and pedestrians walking by. But that’s why we were there, to have the typical Vietnamese dining experience.
The staff could understand very little English so use simple words, google translate or point to the item you want on their extensive menu (you might need a while to go through them as there are pages and pages of items on the huge menu).
We ordered the beef fried rice and chicken cashew nuts. The fried rice was not edible as it was too overcooked/hardened, like they gave us very old rice with rice crust. The rice was chewy crispy (I don’t know how to explain it) and it wasn’t good at all. So we informed the staff and a supervisor came and had it replaced with another new fried rice which was what we expected.
The new fried rice was served and the rice was fluffy and tasty…what a fried rice is supposed to be.
The chicken cashew nuts was good. I know I shouldn’t compare but the Thai chicken cashew nuts tastes better. This version felt flat. Still taste alright though.
The restaurant gives away a dessert for every review if you do it in front of them, which I didn’t so didn’t get any...
Read moreI had the most delightful dining experience at Dai Viet! The food was absolutely superb - the flavors were vibrant and the dishes were beautifully presented. But what really made my visit exceptional was the wonderful atmosphere and the friendly, attentive staff.
As soon as I walked through the doors, I was struck by the lively, energetic vibe of the restaurant. The decor was stylish and inviting, creating a warm and welcoming ambiance. But the true stars were the staff, who went above and beyond to ensure I had an amazing time.
The servers were so friendly and attentive, anticipating my needs and providing top-notch service throughout my meal. They took the time to explain the menu and make recommendations, and they were genuinely passionate about the food and the restaurant.
