I finally made it to Gordon Espresso today which is situated in Southbank in a leafy, treelined area of Clarendon St. It is a modern take on a cafe, with clean areas, lacking the clutter that many cafes have these days. Their outdoor seating area is usually in high demand as is the inside spot. I have seen many a meeting set up there or people working from the safeness of the cafe.
They recently celebrated their 1year anniversary. Woohoo! They have remained open during these trying times and have set up strict COVID-19 precautions to keep their clients safe as well as themselves.
Upon entry the greeting was so welcoming [thank you] and the atmosphere a pleasant space to be in. I was instantly drawn to the sweets cabinet. I asked what was the most popular and was told the Brownie [sells out daily]. Though I didn't order a coffee, I can say with absolute certainty that their coffee/hot drinks are popular due to the sheer amount of people I see coming out of there on a daily basis, take away cup in hand.
What I ordered: The Brownie - OMG, this delectable, oozy, chocolatey homemade goodness was rich in flavour and the smell, was like 'just out of the oven'. To spoil myself, I cut it in half so I can relive the moment of sheer yummy delight tomorrow with a coffee. $4.50
The Coconut & Lemon Blondie - step aside Brownie! This slice reminded me of my Mother's traditional cheesecake. The bite of the lemon and the coconut combination were a perfect match for my espresso once I got home. I do believe I have found a new sweet obsession. Unashamedly, I ate it all in one sitting! $4.50
What you need to know: They are currently open M-Sat 7am - 4pm Their menu is forever changing, keeping it exciting. [Their current one is attached]. The majority of the delights here are made on site [so you are guaranteed freshness].
Do yourself a favour and drop in. Can't wait until restrictions are over so I can do work from here instead of home!

Read moreI tried to order at the register - I was told abruptly it’s table service, where do you want to sit. I sat, tried to order, and the owner was walking off midway through me trying to order. Now wonder, they missed the sides I ordered.
Update: the foods not bad actually; must have been that first day. I’ve given it a few more goes and it ALMOST, was to become my regular - until the owner, in an almost empty cafe, let me know again, about their table service.
I explained I already knew my order & where I wanted to sit. This - didn’t seem to matter & the lecture ensued.
I value my time and their table service is average. It’s disappointing that simple agility and absolutely minor adjustments, when they’re aren’t even busy, is such a problem for them - that they make the customer feel bad for wanting to be efficient. I eat cafe food in town 3 times a week on average. I spend $38 on average every time - $5,928 in potential annual spend.
Must be nice not to have a ‘customer problem’ in this per capita recession that you can present a service...
Read moreAlways a joy to come to Gordon and be among friends, because that's what the friendly folk at this place become.
Let's begin with the coffee. The champion baristas Luke, Nicky, Chris and Cassie who take turns pulling the best coffee and never once deviate from the exceptional standard. Just this should be enough to make you visit. Pair this with their amazing pumpkin loaf and that is going to make the world a much better place.
But if you're lucky to be a local who eventually gets on first name basis with these lovely people, think about Central Perk where you get the FRIENDS as part of the package.
If it were a pub, it'll be straight up the Aussie version of Cheers,...
