When Domino's Pizza Brighton opened up on Bay Street I was a little surprised given that they were entering an already fairly saturated market, particularly with a Crust having just opened down the road several months earlier. Fortunately, when compared to other pizza shops in the area, Domino's absolutely destroys the competition when it comes to price, with basic pizzas setting you back as much as 75% less than what most establishments charge. Unfortunately, the pizza is still incredibly overpriced, and you would probably be better off spending your money on a frozen pizza from Coles and eating it fresh from the freezer. The most delicious part of my meal was the box it came in, which is a good thing because it was about twice the size of the actual pizza.
When I called to place the order, I was told the food would be ready in 15 minutes. Having had a number of issues in the past with restaurants on the Bay Street strip giving me pick-up times that they are unable to meet, I deliberately came to the store after 20 minutes. I was told that it would then take another 5-7 minutes, so I left and came back after that time. What followed was another 10-15 minutes of being told that the food is "just coming out now", despite the fact that my working eyes were telling me the exact opposite. As stated, this is unfortunately a regular problem I have experienced with many of the local restaurants of various cuisines, however in most cases the restaurant eventually serves me food that is generally delicious, and at the very least edible. Unfortunately Domino's cannot fall back on either of these quite fundamental aspects of food preparation.
If you are in the Bay Street area and hanging out for some pizza, there are a number of other options you should look into. Martinella's (aka Brighton-Bay Pizza) is directly across the road and they have almost never disappointed with food or service. Unfortunately they are not open 7 days a week, and so if you really need your fix there is the aforementioned Crust on the other side of the train tracks. It's probably not what where you'd go on a first date, but it'll do in an emergency. Either way, I would recommend steering clear of Domino's, and with a bit of luck they will pack up and leave, making space for Bay Street's 14th...
Read moreProbably the grossest Dominos experience I’ve ever had. Walking in the smell of BO and cheap cologne hit me like a tonne of bricks, overpowering the smell of pizza. The filthy waiting area once had white tiles. Once. The guy at the counter seemed dead inside and couldn’t even muster a hello, just stared at me creepily till I placed my order.
Waited almost half an hour for the pizza to get made (I was the only person there and only one delivery driver rolled through in that time). Pizza looked like it had been put together by Helen Keller and not a single slice was cut the same size or had even toppings. Two slices had NO TOPPING AT ALL.
As I was leaving I saw one of the kitchen staff empty a rubbish bin (no gloves) then turn around and immediately start preparing a pizza, digging his unwashed hands deep into the toppings containers.
Would only recommend eating here if you’re absolutely desperate to find out what food poisoning or...
Read moreThis place sucks. It is by far the worst ever pizza shop I’ve been to, and may be the worst managed shop I’ve ever been to in my life. I came here having ordered my pizza a full hour prior, and when I got here got told not only had they not got my order, but wouldn’t be making it tonight. I was clearly pretty disappointed, but when I talked to the people there, I was mad. This is by far the worst pizza joint I’ve ever attended, and would recommend almost anywhere else over this place. It has completely sworn me off domino’s as a brand for the...
