Slept on it a few nights before writing- never written a negative review and it seemed rude, but here we go. After reading the other reviews, it seems like we might have just been on an off night. This restaurant was recommended by everyone and we were looking forward to a lively night in a gorgeous setting. But, when we arrived, we were told there's a private party in the bar area (it was one table of people) and we could sit in the dining room, but we'd be alone. So, we opted for outside. The patio is on a main road and there was a lot of traffic noise but otherwise nearly silent. No atmosphere, just umbrellas and patio furniture-esque tables. We sat for awhile waiting to be offered a drink, or even water. We were served by several people and no one seemed happy to be serving. We were not asked how we were doing, if we needed anything, etc. It truly seemed like they wanted us in and out. In fact, when my glass of wine was finished, they just took the glass and hurried off, didn't ask if I'd like another. The food was also unimpressive for a Michelin Guide restaurant. When offered "finger food schnitzel" I imagined schnitzel, but reimagined. What we got was (literally) a big piece of (pretty dry) schnitzel cut up on a board. The ham and cheese croquettes were basically fried cheese balls and even came in a little basket. Nothing wrong with this of course, but for Michelin Guide and all the hype, we didn't get it. The mains were no more impressive (fish wasn't cooked through) and we had such a bad taste in our mouth (both literally and figuratively) when we left that we stopped on the way back to hotel and got a huge pretzel and mustard, which was as good as anything we got at the restaurant. We've used the MG to help us choose restaurants all over the world and usually love the results, but this one was a big...
Read moreI have not written many reviews in the past but I just came back from dinner at Vestibül and I had to write this. It was honestly one of the best, if not the best, dinners I’ve had in my life. The venue was beautiful with marble columns, high ceilings, and beautiful architectural details. The food was absolutely fantastic. I enjoyed every single bite. I highly recommend the chestnut gnocchi- beyond declicious! And the wine - a local wine which was suggested to me by my waiter - was one of the best I’ve had the privilege of tasting. But besides the meal and venue, the service I can say for sure was hands down the best I’ve ever experienced. I was in Vienna for work so I was having dinner alone and the staff was so attentive to anything and everything I could have needed - filled my water glass before it was even half empty, came by to ask if I had questions or if I was enjoying the meal, never ever rushed me or took my plate away until it was crystal clear I was finished (and I’m a relatively slow eater so that’s saying something!), checked my coat and had it back ready at the front door when the meal was over, without me asking or even needing a coat check card - and they did everything with a smile. And to top it all off, my waiter was the absolute sweetest person and made the night. So all in all I can’t recommend this place highly enough. If you live in Vienna, or if you’re here for a week, or even a day, you should make the time to go if possible. You will not regret it! I am truly thankful to have had such an amazing experience which I can take back as one of my favorite memories of my time spent in Vienna. Thank you again to everyone...
Read moreIt was my mom's first visit to Europe and I brought her here based on reviews I saw online. The hostess who greeted us was kind. We got to our seat which was in a part of the restaurant where it was a bit compact so I asked if we could be seated somewhere else. The waiter took us to another seat and gave us the menu. The chef came around and I asked if I could have my mother take a picture with him. He said we had to purchase the "chef's menu" and he was then take a photo with her. I thought that was a big wierd given the reviews. I've been to really nice restaurants that that's never been a precondition for asking for a photo. Second and what really angered me was the way the waiter (local) treated me and my mother. I asked him about recommendations on the menu. His response was to squint at me and say that everything was listed there. Unperturbed because my mother was there, I kindly asked again what he thought about a certain dish. Again he seemed annoyed and said that everthing was written there. The final straw was when my mother dropped her knife and asked, in her broken English, for a replacement. He may not have understood her but his reaction - moving his face back and forth in a nasty grin and looking at me for interpretation- really rubbed me the wrong way. I still left a nice tip but I wrote a note to the waiter to treat his customers better. I rarely leave reviews but this review was necessary. Food was good but the experience left a bad taste...
