I tried Patati Patata based on what I read from the reviews here, and I think that future patrons should get a real review of what this place is or is not... It is not the best poutine in Montreal. It is not the best burger either.
Walking into Patati made me feel like Gandolf walking into Bilbo's house; it is very cramped with barely any seating or standing room. This in itself is not so bad; however, if you are sitting down during rush hour expect to get jostled a little by people waiting for their take-out orders.
My dining experience was disappointing due to a number of factors (besides the locale size). I was expecting this place to have an array of poutine choices since their name obviously implies that fries are their main item... there was 1 choice of poutine and if you wanted, you could have added bacon to it and I think something else. No different poutine sauces, no special dipping sauces for fries, just 1 choice. That's like walking into a steak-house and being told that there is only T-bone on the menu. And the portion you get won't exactly satisfy your appetite. I'm just lucky I went with my children who don't eat much so I was able to finish off their plates.
The burger was my next disappointment. Or rather, the dwarf burger. Mini burgers are cute when you are serving them as appetizers at a BBQ before the real meat comes out, not when it is the main meal. That caught me by surprise; that and the fact that it is not served on an actual burger bun but rather on a dinner roll. The meat was lost in the bread. I felt like they were secretly trying to turn me vegetarian by exposing me to a meatless burger, but with enough searching I was able to find the patty.
Now here's the one everyone seems confused about; price! The prices are definitely cheaper at first glance. However, when you compare the portions you get to the price you start to realize that it's actually not that cheap. You pay a few bucks less for a burger compared to a real burger joint, but you get half a burger. Same goes for the fries. Pound for pound, you'll find that you pay as much if not more for your food here. It's nice to look at your bill and say that's not so bad, but then you have to go out to eat somewhere else because you feel as starved as the staff looks.
That segue will lead me into my next rant; the staff. Truth be told, they were nice. I was just a little overwhelmed by so much hipsterism (I made that up) oozing off of all of them. I couldn't tell if they were happy or not because they all had this same expression as though someone just told them that beards and skinny jeans were the main cause of poverty in the world. And one of them also forgot the extra bacon I had asked for on my poutine (read secretly turning me vegetarian). When I reminded him he cooked some up, chopped it, and served it in a bowl on the side. Now, I'm not one to turn down a bowl of bacon but I was expecting it on the poutine.
This was my personal experience and I'm not saying stay away; but be ready for it. Try it out just for the experience but don't go in there expecting anything amazing like so many people here have written. It's a hole in the wall restaurant that will leave a hole in your stomach when...

On the occasion of my visit, I indulged in their beef burgers. Topped generously with cheese and accompanied by golden fries, each item came at a remarkable price of $4.50. The toppings, a vibrant medley of freshness, contributed to a burst of flavors that danced harmoniously on the palate.
In the realm of culinary experiences, appearances can often be deceiving, and Patati Patata masterfully defies any preconceived notions. Regrettably, a minor challenge stands at the threshold of inclusivity, with a lack of ramp and a small step of about six inches at the entrance. Despite this, Patati Patata remains a beacon of culinary excellence, deserving of an unreserved...
Read moreA friend called for a take out and order some fries and salad) before she finished taking her order the guy hung up. We called back since we wanted 3 poutines ( it was the closest place for a poutine). We were at a party so obviously it was noisy. I ask what kind of poutine they have, prices and size i mean the basic info...well apparently it was to much asking and the guy was definitely not competent enough to multitask cuz he hung up on me saying "for real". I went with my friend to pick up her order and the place is freaking small, looks dirty and not organized. The 3 guys working there had their "hands full" with barely 8 customers. I asked the guy if they use to hang up on clients and after arguing he said I should be more understanding since they were in a rush hour and I was asking him the whole menu on the phone (menu not even available on their website). Finally with a big attitude he said that I should take a picture of the menu since I was there and I gladly answer it'll be no next time thank you. The food wasn't fresh my friend didn't even eat half of it and the fries were burned and small. She went to buy some Haitian food...
