Don't stay where Outpost Whistler is associated!! We stayed at their condo for a week skiing this January. It was very cold out and their thermostat couldn't keep up. When I called the management company to help, they sent a 'service guy' that said there's nothing he could do. When I called again about it being too cold to take off our jackets, they said 'to go the store to buy fire logs and shut the drapes'. Well, I would have liked the view because I spent 4k to be in the village, but I guess now that wasn't an option. I called back because it was still below 17° in the unit. They brought me a portable heater. It blew the circuit when we plugged it in again and again. We decided to be graceful with them because it was cold, bought logs on our own expense tonstay warm in the condo and remained cold enough to sleep in our jackets until the weather got better. On top of that, we found out too late that the window had been leaking water into my husband's ski boots. He ended up skiing with a freezing foot for days until later when we discovered the leak dripping into his boots by the wall he was leaving his boots by. When we left, I went out of my way to clean extra. I try to think of people cleaning up after me and try to leave them with a positive experience. So I stripped the beds, gathered the towels, wiped out the fridge, counters, bathroom floors and took out the garbage. I even washed the towels mid week (my expense- they charge $5 per load of laundry) because they don't provide enough towels for a week. Upon returning home, they charted us an 'excessive cleaning charge' of $58. They said we left stickers in the floor, stained a lamp shade, stained the couch and the small area rug in the living room. It's strange that I could stain an area rug that I rolled up and put in the closet (a safety hazard because of no rubber pad under it on hard wood floors) I guess the stain jumped out of my glass, opened the closet door and jumped on the rug like 'cat in the hat'. The stickers they referred to are smaller than a finger nail, so maybe took 1 minute to pick up, probably less than the time it took me to strip the beds for them. As for the lamp shade. Do they think we had food fights? Ridiculous that this place costs WAY more than the nightly rate after they make you buy your own firewood, charge for laundry and upcharge your credit card when you leave. WATCH OUT FOR THESE SNEAKS!
Update: following your 'unseasonably cold comment' - is it important to you that your guests are comfortable? Do you expect your guests to provide their own fire logs? Do you think it's fair for your guest to call the maintenance office more than 3 times in their first 3 days?
How much skin does your guest have to put in the game for this rental?...
Read moreI decided to book directly through Outpost instead of Airbnb. I had some issues during my stay such as the air conditioning not working for over 24 hours and the bed being so creaky, it led to me to waking up with a severe back spasm. I wasn’t able to hike or walk during my four nights stay with my best friend who is turning 50. I paid for an apartment that had air-conditioning in both bedrooms. I understand that to outpost, air-conditioning not working may not be considered an emergency but when you have a dog with heart disease, it is pretty important to make sure the room is cool. I had to send a few follow up texts to see when the technician was coming. I didn’t find the service great. An airbnb host likely would’ve at least acknowledged the fact that I had a room without air conditioning for 24 hours during peak temperatures. If I had stayed at a hotel, this would’ve been resolved immediately. You pay for not just the room but what is included.
I received a message from outpost the day before checkout where they asked me to rate my stay thus far. I gave a 4/5 star rating. After my reservation ended, I wasn’t given the opportunity to provide a review. Perhaps if I rated them 5/5 stars I would have received a property review request? Looking at the reviews on the property it is mostly five out of five stars that...
Read moreThis was second time staying at this location and its a pretty safe bet that we will come back for third! The location is perfect. It's a five minute walk (across the street) to a grocery store, pharmacy, liquor store, pet shop, restaurants and Whistler Olympic Plaza and Whistler Village Centre with all it's restaurants and shopping.
My dog appreciated that Lost Lake was a short 2.3 km walk away and a 20 minute drive to Alta Lake/Rainbow Park, both places having accesses for swimming The only thing you need to be aware of is that this is the time of year when when the momma bears are out with their cubs so dogs should be kept on leash.
Dealing with the Outpost folks was enjoyable. We appreciated the personal touches which made us and our dog feel welcome. The unit was clean and organized. We cooked most of our meals in the unit so we appreciated that it was equipped with just about every kitchen appliance you could need. There was plenty of literature for things to do in and around Whistler. The fireplace provided warmth for the cool mornings Although we didn't need/use them, there were portable air conditioning available (no doubt they will be needed as the summer approaches).
All-in-all, we had an excellent stay thanks to the Outpost team and hope to...
