A Whistler local overheard us trying to find a spot for dinner and highly recommended the braidwood tavern, saying they had a whole vegan menu. We just can’t do dairy so we found that promising. When we got there that wasn’t true, but they had a couple of starters and 3 mains without dairy. The focaccia was delicious, but so salty it really needed the balsamic vinegar to dip to balance it out but that never came. Originally we were told it was sold out and we would get a raspberry bread, but the focaccia was delivered in the end. The cauliflower starter was delicious, the pink sauce lovely, but the green sauce (I’m guessing a pesto?) was so subtle it had no flavour as it was overpowered by the cauliflower spices and pink sauce. My friend had the mushroom steak dinner, which they liked but found it needed more salt. I tasted theirs and found it pretty bland. I got the black cod, which was delicious and falling apart for a couple of bites but in the end made me feel so nauseous from how rich and straight-up oily the coconut/oil sauce/soup it was in. The slight crunchiness became soggy in the heavy sauce. I felt physically ill when we got back in the car after. It really needed more fresh elements, less sauce (it was impossible not to coat every bite of cod in oil), and a bit of acid to balance it out. At $67 for the plate, I was pretty disappointed.
To be fair, the server asked how it tasted and I didn’t complain, mostly because they had a couple of large parties that were quite loud and I didn’t want to be rude shouting my concerns to be heard over the din.
The atmosphere was fine. It’s laid out and decorated in a way where sound bounced all around. There weren’t enough soft materials etc to absorb any of it. There was a huge tv at the bar which you could see from most seats. Maybe if you wanted to catch a game that would be nice. For a $200 dinner, though, it wasn’t what we were looking for.
I’m pregnant and looking at the menu, the raw section was out. We got every starter without dairy. And we got 2/3 mains without dairy (the one we didn’t try was the tiger prawns). The DF selection wasn’t great. The items didn’t go together well. Cauliflower was either the main feature or in a puree for 2/4 dishes we tried, so not a ton of variety even though the items didn’t really go together.
For our dietary needs, we definitely won’t be going back. Too many other places in Whistler that offer more choice and seem to have better...
Read moreThis is one of the restaurants located in Four Seasons Whistler. We stayed at the hotel for three nights and had breakfast here each morning, since it was included with our stay - but they also serve lunch and dinner. We had the option of doing the breakfast buffet or ordering a la carte. I did the buffet twice, and a la carte once. My husband did the buffet all three times, so it was nice that not everyone has to do the buffet if they don't want to.
For the breakfast buffet, they have a good variety of offerings. For the most part, it's the same day to day, but a few items rotate. They have an omelet station, hot foods like sausage, bacon, loaded hashbrowns, and the fluffiest scrambled eggs ever. There's also a section with different types of salmon (candied, smoked, cured), and your breakfast basics like cereal, oatmeal, muffins, toast, juices etc. When you're ready for dessert (yes, desserts at breakfast!), there is an entire display of sweets. One day, they even had a crookie (cookie + croissant), which was surprisingly good. There's a cappuccino/latte machine in the back you can use if you're getting the buffet. But if you order coffee, it'll cost you. I ordered a decaf iced coffee one day, and it came out to $10.
On another day, I decided to order food a la carte and I ordered the lobster hash. I forgot to tell them I needed a cooked egg yolk due to my pregnancy and they remade it. The dish was good but it was tiny, and there wasn't a lot of lobster. If you want to fill up, you're better off doing the buffet, otherwise you will probably still be hungry afterwards ordering a la carte.
There's indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor is nice for the morning air, but you'll also have some black crows to keep you company.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience having breakfast here - but if it wasn't included in our stay, we probably would have just grabbed breakfast in town due to the price. But it's a nice splurge if you want to have a...
Read moreI visited here with friends a few weeks back for dinner. As expected, the food was delicious although we saw that the portion sizes for each dish varied. The descriptions for each dish didn't represent this well, resulting in 1-2 friends feeling peckish after having their black cod, stealing a few bites from those who ordered the branzino. The atmosphere was great for conversation over food and drinks.
Unfortunately service was virtually non-existent. While I understand that it can get busy sometimes during the evening at some restaurants, it wasn't busy the night we arrived. Our waiter disappeared shortly after our food arrived and was never seen again. We needed to flag other passing staff a few times because we wanted more drinks but no one came to check on us. Eventually we wanted to leave and ended up having to walk over to the bar just to ask for our bill. The bartender let us know that our server had already left for the day but he'll send someone else over to help us. This was a surprise since our waiter never came back to let us know. We waited another 20 minutes for the new waiter who never arrived. At this point, we had waited over 45 min for the bill and everyone was impatient. We had to directly chase down a staff member to get our bill for us just so we could pay and leave. It was surprising to experience this level of service given the Michelin recommendation for the hotel and our dinner bill was over 4-figures from the food and wine. It was a sore cap to our evening since we stayed much later than expected.
I hope this was a one time occurrence but it was not a good experience...
