I do not really like writing negative comments, however I thought I have to do the right thing by letting people know about this place. 2 years ago I decided to try the passport membership for 3500 CAD for about 230 club points. I requested to extend the time so I can actually use it. So they extended the end date for my passport to June 30 2017 from June 30 2016.
Everything seemed okay for about an year. However I realized this place is way over priced for what is worth. Paying 300-400 dollar for a single bedroom during regular season is quite expensive. Four seasons price is similar yet they are 5 stars and it's a way better hotel IMO. To make things worse I can't reserve rooms half of the time I wanted to go. I ended up going to pan pacific, fairmont instead despite I had intrawest pass and paid half the intrawest points worth.
Things got worse and worse. Diamond resort took over, it's name Embark now. My original contract is, I can stay one night during the weekdays and two nights during weekends and three nights during holiday weekends. Now Embark/Diamond won't honor this contract and wanted me to stay minimum two nights. To make it even worse it's even harder to book a over priced room. During past 3 months I tried booking 3 times. Min 1 month in advanced. Even though weekends are not in holiday weekends I still couldn't book the dates I wanted.
Since intrawest became embark, I had to talk to rep for at least 1 to 2 hours every time I tried to book. They didn't want to honor my contract and keep on telling me my passport expired. Every time they had to pull the hard copy of my contract to confirm. I understand if it happened once, but I had to go though this every time I call.
Even today, I tried to book a date, and they are telling me they can't secure it because this is my last points and I have to go through presentation, however they don't have any person to do presentation during the time I wanted to book.
I was told that it will take 3-5 business days after requesting for presentation person on the day I want to arrive. I can't secure the room until they hear from Embark presentation office.
I was very upset and told the rep, why Diamond does not honor my contract and force me to stay 2 nights minimum instead of 1 from my original contract during weekdays, yet I have to honor their contract policy of attending the presentation. She talk to someone, came back and told me my pass expired this May 15th. Wow, really? I had to go through this every time I call waste 1-2 hours every time and still they have not corrected this. The rep pretty much said I can't book anymore. I told her she needs to talk to her supervisor about this. She came back and told me my pass expires on May 31st now from May 15th. Really? However the contact I have in front of me says June 30 2017? She told me they will pull the hard copy and confirm again for the 20th time, and let me know in 1 to 2 business days.
So they have failed to book most of the rooms I tried to book, and now I have to wait another day or two to get the confirmation, and still have to wait 3-5 business days for presentation centre to respond the requst.
Bottom Line. Expensive Hard to book Do not honor your contract Waste your time Doesn't care about YOU.
All the + Reviews are from people who bought the time share and they need to represent their asset by giving + review. Don't get fooled. Most of the + reviews are from share holders who had their membership for long time and paid only fraction of what you would need to pay if...
Read moreWe have been long time members since this was Intrawest in 2008. The whole place feels...tired. Out dated. This is supposed to be a 'flag ship' resort and gid knows members pay a fortune to join and in an annual fees. You really do wonder where that money goes because it's not going back into this place. We've been members since 2008 and the rooms haven't been updated since then; although they are updating some ours is a quaint 1990,s Canadian style room. Quaint but old! The kids pool area was totally closed so we had time restricted access to the adult only area - so both groups, kids and adults were unhappy at that! One of the hot tubs in the adult area was also out of order, so everyone tried to squeeze into the resorts sole remaining hot tub. For context the family area has a very large spa, water slide and much larger pool. The adult area is much smaller. Based on how difficult it is to get a booking the resort is at max occupancy. Back to the rooms...Whistler gets very warm very quickly in the spring. It's a unique micro climate typically 10c warmer than Vancouver. Our room was an uncomfortable 26c but we couldn't turn the heating off and the air con units had had all the remotes removed so we couldn't turn them on. There is the a written direction where the remotes should be saying 'refer to room directory' problem is there is no in room directory. The lovely lady in the front desk replied that yesterday many guests were complaining about this issue and she'd see what they could do. An hour or so later sent a very helpful service man who had to turn breakers back on and found a remote that worked (my kids were asleep in bed by this point). Now turned on they are sadly pretty ineffective units.
The club is now owned by Hilton Grand Vacations. The third owner since we "owned" - yes we know it's a timeshare!! Still - no info from Hilton, no invite to update us, less availability than ever, presumably their members now get to use this club as well, so once again less value than ever before. Such a shame. If you can get a room on booking.com I advise trying the Westin or the Fairmont first. Far nicer and...
Read moreThis place surprised me, I'm not a timeshare person at all but had the chance to stay in someone else's time share. The rooms are fantastic and I love the layout of the 2 bedroom spaces. Even if you bring kids you can get get some privacy. The bedrooms don't share a wall which I like. The master bedrooms have a large attached bathroom with a jetted tub. The balcony is pretty big too.
If you're facing the kids pool it's going to be noisy just fyi but idgaf about that, I can handle some noise.
The amentities are great as well. There's a kids pool are with a slide but there's also an adult's area with hot tubs and a wet sauna. We visited the theatre and it's nice too, the seats are super comfy and they usually show 3 films a night, all mainstream Hollywood stuff.
I like the games room. I'm a expert in this area, the section is p decent for a hotel amentity room. The machines are set to free play. The SNES classics are a nice touch. I will say there's a DDR machine in there and the left pad is in really good condition for such an old machine, but for some reason it's an Extreme cabinet with DDR 1 in it which is diabolical haha. Why not upgrade it back to Extreme? It's a much better game with way more songs (including the songs DDR 1 has) and a lot of quality of life features in my opinion.
Some parts of the resort are super dated. I was nervous when I saw the dated lobby and then got an hard sales pitch to buy a timeshare in the lobby ngl (which, I'm never gonna do lol)... But the staff are nice they're just doing their jobs. They asked for me to stay for an even longer sales pitch for a $200 gift card but I know it'd be 90 mins minimum and I can't be bothered to deal with all that for the $200 bucks lol.
Overall, if the time share owner I know wants to offer the space up to me again I would totally return. It was a really...
