A hidden gem for book lovers (and peace seekers) I can’t believe I had been to Paris over ten times and never discovered this place! The Bibliothèque de l’Institut national d’histoire de l’art is truly a hidden gem. Tucked away from the usual tourist buzz, it offers a calm, beautiful space to recharge—whether you’re a book lover, a writer like me, or just in need of a quiet moment.

The garden is lovely, the atmosphere is peaceful, and yes—they even have a free toilet, which in Paris feels like a luxury! Highly recommend stopping by if you’re nearby. It’s the perfect little escape where you can sit down, breathe, and take in the beauty of all those shelves full...

Beautiful building with stunning architecture. When we visited on Monday, we found the Oval room to be closed to visitors, and upon asking about it with staff, they said that room is closed on Monday, but also it's closed the remainder of the week (Jan 2-13).

The other beautiful room was open though, and the guard is prompt to let you know that visitors must stay behind the ropes so as not to disturb the students.

Definitely THE library to go if you're a student of art in Paris (be sure to bring accreditation from your university). I preferred the lovely old Salle Ovale (now under renovation) but being able to sit and work in the central stack area is rather nice — and quiet. The relationship with BnF is a bit confusing, but it's possible to be accredited here without buying a BnF subscription. Certain sections of the Labrouste seem to be under BnF management, and most of the rest...
