I am deeply disappointed and genuinely outraged by the service provided by Chanel. I purchased a white gold ring from Chanel about 20 years ago, which is composed of small interlocking parts. Over time, the ring naturally loosened. Ten years ago, I had it repaired through Chanel’s service. At that time, the repair was free of charge, though it required a two-month wait, which I found acceptable.
However, a few years later, I contacted the boutique again and was informed that the repair would now cost €250—a significant change from the previous policy. I decided not to proceed at that time. Recently, I stopped wearing the ring entirely due to its loosened state and the fear that it might fall off. My husband advised to have it repaired again.
This time, I could not obtain any information over the phone. I was told by the salesperson that I had to visit the boutique in person. Upon arriving, I was informed that I would have to leave the ring for two weeks so that a jeweler could assess it. This lack of transparency and the refusal to provide even preliminary information over the phone felt like a deliberate tactic to compel me to leave the ring for inspection, making it difficult to decline the repair.
Ultimately, I received a repair quote of €670 or €680—a scandalous amount, in my opinion. The cost of the repair was nearly half the price of the ring itself when I originally purchased it. Nevertheless, I reluctantly decided to proceed with the repair.
The entire experience left me profoundly dissatisfied. One of the reasons for purchasing luxury items from a brand like Chanel is the expectation of exceptional service and a seamless experience. This was far from the case.
Additionally, during my visits to the boutique, I encountered other service-related issues. On the first visit, I had to wait a long time for a consultant to assist me, and the individual who eventually approached was indifferent and far from welcoming. On my second visit, the consultant was somewhat more pleasant. However, throughout my time in the boutique, a security guard stood approximately 10 meters away, staring at me incessantly. This made me feel as though I was being treated like a potential criminal, which was deeply uncomfortable.
To add to the disappointment, when it was time to return the ring, I had to explicitly ask for a small Chanel pouch to store it in. While the ring itself is now beautifully restored, this experience has left me certain that I will never purchase anything from Chanel again. This experience was a stark contrast to the elegance, refinement, and customer care one would expect from a prestigious brand.
