This is the worst hotel that I have had the displeasure of dealing with in my entire life. Do not stay at this hotel if you are LGTQIA+ because they WILL discriminate against you. From the moment that I stepped into the hotel, I was treated differently after the receptionist found out that I was staying in a single bed room with my boyfriend. The tone of the stay immediately changed. Later, while my boyfriend was in the hospital I asked them about cancelling the hotel stay early, I was completely ignored and assured that someone would respond to me via email, they guaranteed a fast response and I asked the front desk too, and no one did. They only care about your money, and anything that deviates from that prerogative will be ignored and treated as unworthy of their time. As a result of my boyfriend being in the hospital, there arose an issue about that nightly rate, that the hotel told me about ON MY LAST NIGHT, after I had tried for the past 2 days to cancel the stay and had sent numerous emails about. Calling this entrapment would not be an inappropriate way to describe the situation. I demanded to be allowed to leave on the last night and be refunded as soon as I was told this, and the hotel desk all but laughed and refused. Because my boyfriend was sick, and the hotel ignored my request to leave early and recoup some amount for my stay, I was charged 250% of what I originally agreed to book when I left, an amount that obviously is not small considering this is the Mandarin so it was in the thousands. The front desk people at the hotel as well as management are condescending without any cause and care little to none about the circumstances of the guest. I witnessed their interactions with other guests at the hotel and I was undeniably treated differently as if I was a second class citizen. I have stayed at lots of "high end" hotels across Europe and I can say without a doubt that this was my worst experience by far, and it does not take a genie to guess why given the way my service changed the second the front desk individual who checked me heard me say "I'm visiting with my boyfriend, and we're so excited to enjoy Paris." In summary, I want anyone thinking of staying at this hotel to know that if you are LGBTQIA+ you will receive a second class tier of treatment that borders on discrimination, and the staff of the hotel will treat you lesser. Moreover, if you have any type of situation arise during your stay or prior, do not expect any kind of service that you would from another 5 star hotel, they only care about money and will not do anything to help you. The management I dealt with regarding the price was condescending, recognized that they had made a mistake got on the phone with me, and then basically told me "what are you going to do about it," to give you a sense of the type of people who work at this hotel and how they...

Read moreI am a creature of habit but decided to try the Mandarin Hotel in Paris. I actually was delighted with the hotel, the location, my accommodations and the service. Everything was fine until I realized that someone had entered my room and stole a priceless watch of mine. I reported it to the hotel management. They told me my room was the second room that was robbed that week. They suggested that I go and file a report with the police which I did. I furnished them with a copy of the police report and they said they would review the videos to determine who went into my room during the period of time in question. They had on video a number of hotel employees going in and out of my room. My room was on the sixth floor. You could not access the floor without a card key. On my departure date, everyone was very nice and apologized to me about the incident. I was assured that the police would follow up and they would let me know the outcome. I flew back to New York praying that they might contact me to tell me that they recovered my watch. It turned out that my watch, which I purchased in 1995, was not covered by my insurance. I reached out to the hotel and asked for their insurance company information. Here's the response that I received: "While I understand your situation, after having completed our investigation, we do not have any evidence of an intrusion in your room. In this current situation, the hotel cannot take responsibility for the loss of your watch." Naturally I'm upset. I'm 65 years old and have traveled the world. As part of my job, I have had the privilege to stay in some of the finest hotels in the world. I have "never" had a situation like this happen to me. I have never ever been "robbed", "dismissed" and basically called a liar. I can assure you that I will never stay at another Mandarin Hotel. I strongly urge anyone who decides to stay at a Mandarin Hotel to protect their valuables and don't assume just because you are on a secure floor, that...
