I don't understand the high ratings for this restaurant. The lady owner first told us we only had an hour without a reservation, we were only 3 and all the patrons of the restaurant had to share long tables with benches and ate on paper place mats. It started to get crowded with people eating fondue or cooking meat at their table. We proceeded to order some of the most expensive items on the menu. We told them we would have our starters out first before our mains. Some of the worst escargot overcooked and flavorless, "French" onion soup (except we were instructed to just call it onion soup) with a very strong white wine acidic flavor as it hadn't been properly cooked through like they just dumped it in there last minute. The foie gras platter was plated in the most juvenile fashion and was of low quality with bad texture (we've had a lot of foie gras in our lives) and the sea salt was unnecessary and ruined the dish. The large portions of low quality food made us full but dissatisfied and since our hour was up, we asked to cancel our mains. The lady owner came out and said she already started 2 of the 3 dishes (she randomly cancelled one and was literally thinking in front of us which to cancel by looking up to the ceiling to decide), we also knew this was a lie because it took the mains a long time to come out. Most sloppy plating we've ever seen. We asked for extra plates so we could share since the giant portion of chips piled over half the huge plates made it look like a lot of food but we were told we couldn't have extra plates maybe except one which we never received. When we asked for to-go boxes, we were only allowed one. The food was some of the worst I've ever tasted for the price, the duck confit was dry, and the entrecote was rubbery, chewy and lacked flavor maybe because they were rushing out the order before the meat was properly defrosted and cooked. The various sides looked like dog food thrown on top of each other. Oh and the house red was not good. We have attached photos. On top of that, we had subpar treatment from the lady owner. We felt bad for our nice waiter who we could see was being abused by her, so we decided to tip 10% anyway as much as we hated the food. One of the worst experiences in our culinary lives and our bill was over $120 euros. Do not go to this...
Read moreLa Taverne de Montmartre is a truly special find in the heart of Paris. This old, charming restaurant exudes a unique, unpretentious atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. It has a warm, welcoming vibe that feels authentic, cozy, and down-to-earth. Recommended by friends back home in Norway, we decided to try their famous raclette, and it absolutely lived up to its reputation—it was simply lovely! 😍
The experience was as engaging as it was delicious, with a charcoal grill placed right on the table, small fry pans for melting the delicious cheeses, and an impressive variety of high-quality meats, mushrooms, and fresh vegetables to accompany it. For those wanting an even more indulgent experience, you can order an entire full piece of cheese to melt at your table, adding a touch of spectacle to the meal. The food was truly fantastic, and to our delight, my daughter, who has celiac, was able to enjoy everything except for the bread.
The service was impeccable yet relaxed, with a lighthearted, humorous touch. The staff clearly loved their work, as they played funky '80s hits and joined in the fun, which added to the lively and nostalgic atmosphere. La Taverne de Montmartre offers a dining experience that is both memorable and full of charm, making it a must-visit for anyone who appreciates good food and great vibes. Highly...

I had escargots in 4 different restaurants in Paris , but this restaurant was the best which is why I had to return a second time. The first time I turned up at the restaurant was on a Friday evening when the place was already packed with reservations but they were kind enough to offer me a table by the corner. The portions are generous. I asked for chocolate mousse. The lady serving me gave me two servings of chocolate mousse because she felt it was too less but one serving was enough for me. It was rich and delicious!!
When I turned up the second time I decided to order the beef bourgignon ( this place is supposed to serve the best) with escargot and decided to skip the desserts. As I was waiting for the bill this sweet lady brought a speaker with Queen's "we are the champions" playing loudly. Shortly after, they brought out complimentary creme and fresh fruits with sparklers for returning to them. I was very touched!!
Thank you for the delicious food and the lovely experience! I definitely know where to eat in...
