We visited to buy a few traditional sweets after Toji temple because a family found the shop on google maps and the positive reviews look promising. It is very close by, just a few minutes walk from the temple.
Looking back, I regret buying only a few. The sweets are all so good! Especially the mochi, they have texture and filling unlike the ones made anywhere else - the sweetness of the filling is just right and not sickening. The mochi's texture has the perfect thickness and chewiness!
There were no customers at the time when we visited, it was a weekday afternoon. Do keep in mind there is no English menu there. The shop is run by an elderly couple, so knowing basic Japanese would be helpful.

We also got "Fukiyose", a pack of assorted cookie-yatsuhashi, they come in different colors and flavors.
Another thing: try to make your decision quick as we probably took longer time than the old lady had liked, so I think she got a bit annoyed... But if I were to visit Kyoto again, I'd love to come back for more. Hopefully my Japanese has improved...
