The sushi from this hidden spot seems like a true delight. The sashimi, with its vibrant colors, looks incredibly fresh—likely melting in your mouth with a rich, buttery smoothness. The salmon offers that clean, oceanic taste, balanced perfectly with the briny pop of the salmon roe, adding a burst of umami to each bite. The eel glistens with a smoky-sweet glaze, offering a deeper, more complex flavor, while the tamago (egg) brings in a gentle sweetness, rounding out the plate.

The nigiri, with its delicate rice, pairs seamlessly with each topping, allowing the pure, natural flavors of the fish to shine. The shrimp seems plump and sweet, with a tender texture that balances nicely with the firmer, salty bite of the seaweed.

The pickled ginger and lotus root add brightness, offering tangy and crisp notes to balance the richness of the fish. Together, these elements create a dining experience that’s as satisfying as it is nuanced—a burst of freshness, texture, and pure, unadulterated flavor, straight from the sea to your plate. It’s the kind of meal that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled on a hidden treasure, one that’s all about simplicity...

Casual and comfortable sushi dining in Kyoto about a 15 minute walk from the rail museum. A real mom and pop feel with a very gracious patron. Generous plates that are fresh and well done. Cash only. Floor and chair seating available. Affordable draft beer and a menu with excellent variety. 8 piece sashimi, 8 piece nagiri, 8 tuna rolls, edamame appetizer and two draft beers will run you a little under 12,000 yen, great value and good quality. English menu available and the host/chef was very polite and welcoming. Food came out fast and there was western pop music on the radio (Daft Punk anyone?). The host told me loves his traveler guests and we love him too! If you're having a hard time getting a reservation on short notice at other restaurants then just go here, you'll love it. There is a shrine two blocks away so it's easy to get a cab A genuine...

Really great food with amazing and nice owner. Went alone and waited for one more person to join, the owner was okay with it and even brought me green tea for the time being. The place was empty at a time, and it seems that the owner works there alone, so it might take a longer while for groups to be served, so take that into account. Owner has a really nice and friendly cat called Ponchan that allowed itself to get it's nose booped.

The price wasn't really that high as other reviews mentioned, and the owner mentioned that I can have lower prices per lunch set right now, which accounted to 1000yen less. The owner speaks a little bit of English and gave us some chocolates for our trip back. 10/10...

Warning: Beware of Overpriced Menus Before my trip, I checked Tabelog, and the reviews said meals were around 1500-2000 yen. However, based on our real experience, we ordered Unagi Don (eel bowl) and Kani Don (snow crab bowl). The owner asked if we wanted tea or water, so we chose two teas. When the bill came, it was 12100 yen, and there was no receipt. I was shocked by the final price. If you decide to eat here, make sure to confirm the prices before you order, especially if you get the English menu. The prices seem to be higher than the Japanese menu. Also, ask if there are any extra charges like tea or service fees. Please check the prices carefully before dining here to avoid hidden costs.
