We came to check out this resturant based on other positive reviews this evening. I felt like a curry and this one was the highest rated in close proximity of the hotel we were staying at. We were the only ones dining in on this occassion. We were greeted upon arrival and got to pick out of the tables. We were given hot towels to wash our hands when we sat down. They have an extensive menu here. After deciding what we wanted we rang the bell on the wall. The staff member came over right away. We both chose the cheese naan set. I chose mutton and mango juice for my drink and my finace chose butter chicken and got a cola drink. The salad and the drinks came out first. It was a simple salad with a slice of cucumber. I really liked the salad dressing. We didn't have to wait long for our mains. Our mains were brought out at the same time. The cheese naan was so cheesy (they were very generous with the cheese - the most I've ever seen/ had before in a naan) & it had a slight crunch to it. It was essentially a full sized naan cut into 4 pieces. There were 2 pieces of chicken tikka (this was average tasting in my opinion). The mutton curry made it for it though. We both got medium and this was not hot at all which should've been expected as there were no chilli symbols next to it. I wish I chose hot but I was sharing with my finance so I let him pick the spice level. He also wished he chose a hotter one for his butter chicken. It was an enjoyable meal and good value. We received friendly and prompt service with our water glasses getting topped up as needed. The mango drink tasted more like a nectar and was a bit too sweet for my liking. Authentic flavours and generous portion sizes. So much so that I could only eat 2 pieces of naan. We enjoyed our meal. Was able to pay with my card which was a bonus. I see they have the uber eats...

This is a very odd Indian restaurant. Smiling staff warmly welcomed us. We were given a menu with pictures of dishes and an English caption as well as Japanese explanation. When we chose our dishes, everything came out separately which we weren’t expecting, and rice last of all! We were given one spicy popppdum each (not ordered) but no pickles or relish to enjoy it with. We had already had a ‘green salad’ delivered to the table - lots of shredded lettuce, a few slices of tomato, a couple of pieces of cucumber all dressed with a thick sauce, so it didn’t look very green at all but tasted just about OK. Then the Veg samosas were delivered, they did t look homemade but rather bought in, they were reasonable but nothing special. Three small pieces of Tikka chicken had arrived plus a vegetarian plate for my companion. A beer, a red wine (no choice, but kept in the fridge at a very low temperature!) and what was described as a ‘curried coffee’ were brought to the table. The service was pleasant t and reasonably quick, the food was only average and we did not imagine those in the kitchen had been restaurateurs prior to...

Had a delicious dinner on 17 Mar 2025. Everything we ordered was great…I have all positive comments.

First thing, excellent food….portion size was just right and on the table within 15 min. We sat at the table closest to the cash register/kitchen so we were able to watch them make the naan. Besides being delicious, each of the naan were HUGE….we ordered two plain naan, a garlic naan and one garlic and cheese naan…(Naan-Olympics) My brother ordered the Happy Set Meal and I had Chicken Tikka Marsala and some rice. We also split one order of Veg Momo dumplings. We did all this because we were hungry and because we are pigs….but this tag team couldn’t finish everything. Some of the naan will be breakfast tomorrow morning and that’s okay!

The server was super friendly, professional and very efficient….great job! The two gentlemen working the kitchen were the same….super friendly, professional and very efficient. They have about 6 or 7 tables in the dining area and the atmosphere was authentic. I will definitely eat at Soniya again when I’m in Kyoto. Thanks again for the...
