I recently had a frustrating experience at a store while shopping for baby food. My 1.5-year-old son was hungry and clearly wanted one of the purees, so I opened it to give it to him. When I got to the checkout, I handed the opened puree to the cashier to scan. Instead of understanding, I received multiple disapproving looks, and she began discussing the situation with her manager.

It turns out, in Japan, it’s frowned upon to open food items before purchase. I understand the rules, but I was ready to buy it and had no intention of stealing. As a parent, it's difficult to explain things to a toddler in that moment, especially in a store specifically catering to babies.

I wish the staff had shown a bit more understanding and compassion. After all, we’re all just trying to take care of our kids. A little kindness goes a long way, especially in a place designed for families.

Similar to the other reviews, one employee who spoke fluent Chinese was very rude. We were asking about tax refund and she gave off the attitude that we shouldn’t bother because the refund is not worth her trouble. If we insist, she would have to call someone to help and she would make us wait on the spot for over an hour. Very off-putting and arrogant. Not sure if the other reviews were of the same person, but those reviews are 4-6 years old. If Akachan doesn’t bother reading these reviews, I guess that’s how much they care about their services.
