I dropped in by myself at this small, cozy spot in nishi-shinjuku that serves udon and other osaka-style items. I had the kitsune udon which is my simple go-to and Japanese natsukashii dish and it was fantastic - the broth especially hit the spot! English menu was available.
The other dishes other folks were getting looked delicious as well, but I was happy to have drinks and chat. They serve horumon (offal) which I've had in Osaka and the Koreans sitting next to me seem to really enjoy and chat with Kota-san about it.
The whole place fits about ~10 people so it can get tight. Kota-san was working super hard and did a great job of accommodating everyone - he speaks great english and his super friendly to everyone! He happily answered menu questions provided recommendations etc.
It was also super cool to strike up conversation with some the visiting customers as well since it was so cozy. There's some japanese rock posters and memorabilia which I thought was an...
Read moreBest Udon I've ever had! I almost left because I couldn't figure out how to order on the machine. The owner/cook helped us out. He spoke English and was able to figure out what we wanted. We got the lunch specials, the beef/tempura udon and seafood udon. I usually like to take out the tempura so it stays crunchy but you have to leave it in the broth. When the tempura melts, the flavor is so much better! Sprinkle some pepper flakes cause I like spicy foods, and it's fire! The noodles are not too soft or too chewy just perfect. I've had the popular in Honolulu often but my family and I agreed that this place is better! My baby got the tempura chicken and he loved it, very tasty. I'm so glad we came here to get my udon fix in Japan before we...
Read moreWhat an incredible dining experience! The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and had such a great ambience. The food was absolutely delicious. The beef udon was perfectly chewy and flavorful, the kimchi had just the right balance of spice and tang, and the spicy cucumber salad was super refreshing. What really made this place stand out, though, was the owner. He was so kind and welcoming, and he took the time to walk us through the menu and offer recommendations. His English was excellent, which made communication really smooth and easy. You can tell he genuinely cares about both the food and the people who come in. Highly...
