Teochew Chendol = RM4.70 No Service Charge
In Online Photos about this place, there is always a Very Long Queue that stretches so long. Luckily there were No Queues on a Monday Afternoon at around 4.20pm, although I do see the Queue building up as Time goes on. Even so, the Queue never really build up too long as the Line moves relatively fast.
This really is a Classic Roadside Street Food Vendor with a Team of Staffs and the Somewhat Elderly 大姐 who is the Main Serving Lady. She is the Main Reason why the Queue moves fast.
She's so fast in her Movements it was quite Mesmerising to just stand there watch her Perform. She was also a Very Jolly Lady with Good Cheer and a Hearty Laugh too! Sometimes she will crack some Bo Liao Corny Jokes and she and her Staffs will just laugh together with the Customer.
It only took about 2 Mins of Queueing for me to get mine, which is served in a Plastic Disposable Container. This place is only for Takeaways, there are No Dining In, although you can go to the Kopitiam which is located just beside it to sit down and enjoy the Chendol.
Teochew Chendol = RM4.70
Amount of Ingredients Definitely Felt Alot More Generous compared to the one I had in JB City Square. You see the way she slops them into the Bowl you also can tell is Generous. It has the Same Look, also the Soupy Soupy type of Chendol, not our Singapore Mini Ice Kacang type of pattern.
The Soup is pretty much almost the Same Profile as the one I had in City Square which I really liked because it had a Deep and Elegant Undercurrent of Coconut Milk that never felt Overpowering.
Some People are right, there is abit of Saltiness that is actually present in this. Funny, I only noticed this when People mentioned about it when I read other people's reviews of it. The Overall Chendol is obviously Sweet first and foremost, but its this Very Subtle Salty Tease thats interesting.
That said, I feel its the Ingredient Toppings that really played the Most Important Role here, ESPECIALLY the Red Bean.
Because the Red Bean was Much More Generous here, it really contributed to this Version, making each Spoonful have a Very Delightful Red Bean Taste that helps elevate the Already Elegant Tasting Coconut Milk. This Red Bean was the Big Contributor of why I very much prefer this version compared to the JB City Square one.
As for the Distinct Green Chendol Worms were alright, I don't think they taste much different tbh. If there were any differences, they must be very subtle because I really couldn't tell. The Amount sure felt alot more compared to the one at JB City Square though.
Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At the Price of RM4.70 (S$1.40), this was very much more Cheaper compared to the JB City Square's Version of RM8.40 (S$2.50). 吓死人, pretty much Double the Price. Although to be fair, the latter one is located in a Shopping Mall.
If I were to be very honest, I feel the Base Taste of this Original Version vs the City Square version has a Very Similar Taste Profile. I admit I would probably not be able to tell them apart if you were to let me taste both Chendol Soups together.
The Main Thing that differentiate the 2, is the Noticeable Generous Amount of Ingredient Toppings given. As mentioned, the Red Beans really are the Main Factor why I prefer this one so much more in comparison.
What really made me decide to give my Highest Top Score is really the Jolly Demeanor of that Main Serving Auntie. Her Bright Personality really shone thru for me with her Good Cheer and Happy Joyous Feel even though it was really a Very Harsh and Super Hot Environment to work in.
I Highly Recommend to visit this, because not only will you be visiting this Very Famous Stall, it is also Very Strategically Located next to 2 other Michelin Eateries (Jin Kor Char Kway Teow and Penang Road Famous Laksa) that are a Very Short Walk away. Super Convenient Location to start your own Penang Food Adventure!

Read moreIn the bustling streets of Georgetown, Penang, lies a culinary gem that has captured the hearts (and taste buds) of locals for generations. This renowned restaurant is a mecca for food enthusiasts seeking the true flavors of Penang, with its unparalleled offerings of Asam Laksa, Cendol, and Char Kway Teow.
The Asam Laksa served here is nothing short of a masterpiece - The journey of creating the iconic Asam Laksa begins with the careful preparation of the flavorful broth. Tamarind, lemongrass, galangal, and a special blend of spices are simmered together to create a tangy and aromatic base that forms the soul of the dish.
Fresh mackerel is then poached to perfection, before being flaked into tender pieces that will adorn the bowl of Asam Laksa. The broth is infused with the essence of the fish, creating a harmonious balance of flavors that is both robust and refreshing.
Rice noodles are blanched and placed at the bottom of the bowl, ready to soak up the rich broth. A generous ladle of the aromatic soup is then poured over the noodles, along with a sprinkle of finely chopped herbs, sliced onions, and a dollop of pungent shrimp paste.
The final touch comes in the form of a squeeze of fresh lime, adding a burst of citrus to cut through the richness of the dish. The result is a bowl of Asam Laksa that is as visually stunning as it is delicious, a true testament to the meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into each serving. A symphony of tangy tamarind broth, perfectly cooked rice noodles, and a medley of fresh herbs and mackerel flakes. Each spoonful of this iconic Penang dish is a burst of complex flavors that dance on your palate, leaving you craving for more.
The Cendol at this establishment is a sweet delight that provides the perfect respite from the tropical heat of Penang. Served in a generous bowl with shaved ice, fragrant gula Melaka, and creamy coconut milk, this traditional dessert is a harmonious blend of flavors and textures that will surely satisfy your sweet tooth.
And let's not forget about the Char Kway Teow - a perennial favorite among both locals and visitors alike. Wok-fried to perfection with a smoky char, this dish showcases the expert culinary skills of the chefs at this restaurant. Each mouthful of the stir-fried flat rice noodles, infused with soy sauce, chili, prawns, and cockles, is a celebration of flavors that exemplify the essence of Penang street food.
With its reputation deeply rooted in the local community, this restaurant stands as a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Penang. The bustling ambiance, the aroma of sizzling woks, and the friendly chatter of patrons create an atmosphere that is as inviting as the food is delightful.
For an authentic culinary experience that transports you to the heart of Penang's food scene, look no further than this beloved restaurant in Georgetown. Read moreListen, I don't know what half the stuff in this bowl is, but it works. Went there melting like a crayon on the dashboard, and this green noodle soup thing saved my life.
Look, it's called "FAMOUS" - and you know what? For once, something that calls itself famous actually deserves it. Unlike half the places on Yelp where every taco truck thinks it's God's gift to humanity.
The green things (rice noodles? Who cares?) are chewy in a good way, not like eating rubber bands. The coconut milk doesn't taste like sunscreen, which is a miracle. And those little red beans? Perfect. Sweet but not "diabetes in a bowl" sweet like everything else these days.
Best part? It costs NOTHING. Back home, some pretentious hipster would charge you $20 for this and explain the "journey" of each ingredient while you slowly die of heat stroke. Here? A few bucks and boom - you're human again.
The textures are all crazy - shouldn't work but absolutely does. It's like someone having a laugh: "Here, eat this green spaghetti with beans in ice soup." And you think they're messing with you, but then you try it and realize you've been missing out your whole life.
Perfect for when you're sweating like a contestant on a game show and need something to cool you down without being boring vanilla ice cream.
Would recommend. Don't overthink it, just go eat the weird green dessert soup. Your future self...
