When my mother died I wanted to have a wake for her; I really didn’t want to prepare all the food myself as we were expecting about 60 people. Equally I dreaded dealing with a catering firm that weren’t going to be reliable or, even worse, were going to deliver an embarrasingly mean amount of food. Jillian Maskill and her crew from Tall Poppies took on all the stress and completely organised the food, the equipment, the crockery and glassware; they thought of things that I would have missed. They came the day before and set all the equipment up, then on the day itself came back before the crowds came and put out all the food. We had a High Tea; everyone was blown away by the beautiful crockery, and the lovely silverware. The food was really generous - 60 people at a wake can get through a deal of food and tea and try as they might not even they could consume it all. The next morning Tall Poppies came back and spirited everything away, leaving the venue pristine. this review may sound gushy; but anyone who has put on a wake for a loved and much-missed relative will understand how grateful I am to have had a team who did everything, where there was not one problem or drama; who turned up exactly when they promised, and still delivered an event that my mother’s friends and family will talk about for years. I ordered a high tea to celebrate my mum's birthday. Jillian always replied promptly and gave us a large selection of menus to choose from that detailed the specific plates. The menu was very well presented and many had unique and appealing themes. We had smaller children at the high tea and Jillian was more than happy to cater to their needs, offering more simple versions of the dishes. On the day, all the food was absolutely exquisite and the delicate cakes and sweets looked delectable. Jillian paid careful attention to each item, ensuring the taste, texture and aesthetic were perfect. She arrived punctually and prepared all the food on plates which was straight forward and easy to arrange on the table. The high tea also came with special equipment (stands, teapot, cups and saucers etc) to make the experience even more elegant and sophisticated. We had the Queen Victoria High Tea and the New Zealand Artisan Grazing Table for our wedding.

All of the food was delicious and well presented. We especially enjoyed the coronation chicken sandwiches, the scones and the chocolate eclairs. The gluten-free selection was also a hit with our guests.

All the tableware looked stunning and many of our guests even mentioned wanting sets of their own.

We were so happy and impressed with the service provided. Every person we worked with was friendly and very organised. We especially liked that we were able to make adjustments where necessary to suit our specific needs.
