I decided to bring my own container for a sushi lunch and it worked out so great. Staff member was very polite and helpful (no idea if she gave me a discount). I was even able to get the mushroom sushi made on demand as they had run out so that was really nice of them. My selection cost me NZD19.00 so a bit on the pricey side. It is somewhat worth it taste and variety wise. I think the incentive should be better though to convince students, staff and members of the public to bring their own reusable containers.
If you're not in the mood for sushi, just on the other side of the Quad is their partner eatery: Uni the Bowl which sells donburi bowls. I had the karage chicken bowl (NZD17.00) and it was served to me speedily but the karage lacked seasoning so it was quite bland. Great texture (crunch for days) but just very bland in taste even with the sauces. I've also had the pork katsu (NZD 17.00) and this was my favourite. The katsu was seasoned well and the kitchen was nice enough to accept my request of putting the katsu sauce on the side. I wanted to order this again but on the day I went they were already out of pork katsu (happens a lot so you need to get in quick!) so I settled for the chicken katsu (NZD16.00). It had good flavour but wasn't as juicy as the pork katsu. I recently realised that I don't think the pork katsu is ever available but for some reason it seems to be on the menu. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. Recently, ordered the tofu donburi. I'm not a huge a fan of tofu because it's pretty tasteless and this didn't change my mind. I feel like tofu needs some sort of coating and decent seasoning to be enjoyable. I wouldn't order this again but only because I'm just not a tofu person. I would've preferred a vege tempura donburi instead so hopefully this gets added to the menu in future.
Not possible to dine in but there are sheltered tables in the Quad and atrium to have your sushi or donburi if you so desire or you can cross Princes Street and enjoy it in...
