Trollfjord, Lofoten: Lófót. So called because they saw in the pattern of islands the snowy imprint of a lynx's foot: ló translates to lynx and fót to foot.
Here, The clouds have fun with the mountains. This morning, old Tuva, above Svolvaer, tall and pointy, whom we climbed just recently, has grown a beard. Look again, it’s a shawl. slipping away over his shoulder.
Out on the boat, Switching to electric power for a ‘silent cruise,’ we swung slowly into Trollfjord. Granite pillars guard the narrow entry. A stony silence prevails.
High on a cliff I caught sight of a grey-faced ancient, long nose, a tiny mouth just above the water line, sipping the salty sea, ‘salthavn’, and not happy about it.
Further long, another ancient with hollow ears, one dark staring empty eye, blobby nose and three big granite teeth, one missing, gap-toothed. Been in a fight? With no kindly healing dentist to hand, the troll’s tooth just fell into the fjord a thousand years ago, and he’s still not happy about it.
And another companion back there, sea cave mouth set in a giant yawn, ¬or is it waiting to swallow you up?
They say two trolls had a squabble here, tore boulders out of the earth and hurled them at each other, and the warring stones piled high on the island beyond the entrance. In came the sea. And they’ve still not settled their quarrel, you can see that in...
Read moreTry to do this cruise if visiting Lofoten islands. Make reservations once you are certain of the weather on the particular day you are picking - make sure it’s sunny as on a cloudy/rainy/snowy day the mountains and islands are not visible :( We were lucky to get great weather and the cruise was absolutely worth the money and spending 3 hours. It’s not choppy or uncomfortable (for people who have motion or other sickness), it’s silent and very smooth. Extremely beautiful views throughout- it was like a series of countless picture postcards ! Wasn’t windy and we could stand outside and take pictures as well as sat inside. They offer refreshments on the cruise for people to purchase. There were 2 marine biologists on board - one local from Norway and one from Australia - both very knowledgeable and shared their views and wisdom on marine life throughout. In the last 30 minutes or so, they dropped a drone in the water and showed sea kelp forest, sea urchins and other local Norwegian marine life. It was fun overall and well worth the...

The Seagulls Followed our boat too and the Troll Area was fun too but look closely at the Rocks how that place got its name. I was Lucky to see the Sea Eagles around the troll area and a couple of nests are there you can sit outside or on a Rainy day inside the boat with lots of seats and some Tables. My dad caught a Fish I thought I almost had one as I thought I felt tugging but unfortunately it didn't clap on the hook and swam away but it was a nice try. It was a very Enjoyable tour. When we booked it in advance one of the guides was Even there who called our names. You have a choice of tours but the Classic one I did Really Enjoy and hope Tourist's will try and enjoy that one...
