Bacalao — Restaurant in Vågan

We had a delightful experience dining at Bacalao Rest.

Food The food was absolutely delicious, and each dish stood out in its own way. The fish was amazing and flavorful. The reindeer was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned.

The highlight of the night, however, was the soup. It was simply yummy—a perfect balance of flavors and incredibly comforting, especially since it was a cold evening. It really warmed us up and set the tone for the rest of the meal.

Service Service was quick and efficient, which we appreciated.

Parking One downside, though, was the parking situation. It was a bit tricky to find parking, and we ended up parking on the street. However, the overall experience more than made up for that minor inconvenience.

$$$ We spent around 1100 NOK (roughly 100 USD) for the meal, which felt like good value for the quality of food and service provided.

This is a very mitigated experience here. We came back a couple times cause the location is nice and the food is pretty good. However, the service was really off. You always seem to be bothering the staff no matter what the topic is. I was also very thrown off about how every time we wanted to go outside, the answer was okay but you need to order inside and pay at the counter - which in itself is fine, but that was not the case for anybody else than us. Everybody got to sit and order at the table, except for us. The last time we were there, it took 20+ mins to get one pie and a bottle of water - which I had to order at the bar, pay for in advance and then get up 3 times to ask for again. Eventually they said we had not given the table number which was not true, plus we talked to the same person 4 times who knew where we were sitting and were the only people to be treated to a different kind of requirement. Anyways, maybe still worth...

The Moules Frites (mussels) are really fresh and delicious, and so are the fries and the accompanying dip. Their "classic" Bacalao dish was okay, though not great. I felt the sourish tomato sauce takes away the flavour of the cod.

One of the staff treated guests differently. We requested for an outdoor table as there were plenty and the weather was great, but we were immediately shut down with a harsh as "NO" without any explaination why we can't seat outside while 2 other western couples could (there were easily more than 10 available tables outside). The waitress than chuck us the menu and entertained other customers. We're asians, and guess what? Another asian customer came and he was also assigned to seat with us. When we were done with our dinner and walked out, there were a lot of customers enjoying their meals outside and well... they're all westerners. I don't really know what to think of this...
