Avenue Habib Bourguiba is a pleasant and lively street, with lots of restaurants, cafés, and things to see. It’s a great place for a stroll, and it’s often buzzing with activity, especially in the evenings.
However, like in parts of the Medina, it’s important to stay alert. You may be approached by individuals who seem friendly and eager to offer advice, directions, or local tips — sometimes even claiming to recognise you from your hotel or a nearby shop. While a few may be well-meaning, many are scammers trying to draw you into a situation where they ask for money, push unwanted services, or lead you somewhere under false pretences.
Unfortunately, this kind of behaviour can happen in plain sight, with little intervention from the police. That said, it’s not reflective of Tunis or Tunisia as a whole.
