I only came here based on the reviews and glad I did. I went twice. So good. Highly recommend! Located on a side street off Avenue Habib Bourguiba. Doesn't look like much but it is clean, service is super friendly and nice, food is delicious and it is cheap. Nice to eat with the locals rather than all the touristy places outside. You can enjoy your meal in peace without being hounded! Basic food, made with love and so good! Simple menu of mainly traditional Tunisian food and grills, soups, salads and more. There is spaghetti too but stick with the local cuisine. I was curious to try the ojja merguez which is similar to a shakshouka. This was delicious. Spicy and full of flavour. Freshly made and so comforting. They give complimentary bread (a baguette) and harissa with olives, so perfect for dipping. The second time I went, I had the grilled fish (this varies depending on season and availability). The fish was grilled and came with a light salad and fries. Lovely. You also get a choice of another complimentary side. You can choose from couscous, spaghetti or loubia (bean stew). I went with the latter as I had never tried it before. A lovely meal. Couldn't fault it. Service was so pleasant and I was made to feel at home despite being a female solo traveller. Very sweet. ...
Read moreDuring our stay in Tunis, we received a number of conflicting suggestions about where to eat proper seafood. Given that there is a row of seafood restaurants on a single block of the Rue de Caire, right around the corner from the hotel Carlton where we stayed, we gave Neptune a try.
And what a wonderful choice we made!
Prices are fair for Tunisians, which mean incredible cheap for foreigners. Service is fast and attentive. Portions are huge! I ordered merguez sausage with fries, but it came with a "little side of vegetarian couscous" (as described by the waiter) served on a different plate, which indeed was a full sized bowl. My wife ordered the couscous with seafood... she expected a regular plate of couscous with some bits of squid and shrimp, but instead she got a big bowl of couscous, with a full grilled fish and plenty of seafood on the side (she couldn't finish it, they gave us a take away box)
It's places like this that make you happy to see different cultures...
Read more12 of us, including a baby in a stroller walked in with no reservations. Immediately the tables were moved, the chairs shuffled and space was made. The group ordered from all over the menu, fish, chicken, salads, omelet. All guests were delighted with their meals. Service was prompt friendly and willing to work with our one french speaking member to get the orders right.
Fish was excellent. Couscous was excellent.
Definitely a "come back here" place.
Oh, and the price for 12 people?
