I very rarely write negative reviews as I feel it someones business and in a world where reviews mean alot i try not to, however on this occasion I was compelled to write so people could know about the situation at Hotel Suisse
I had informed the hotel in March 24, that we would be arriving slightly early and the request was approved however when we arrived at the hotel 12:25pm (normal check in is at 12pm so we were not early) from a whole night of traveling with three kids we were asked to wait over 40 minutes as the rooms were not ready, with my kids being up from the early morning flight it was quite frustrating, and what was more annoying is they kept saying “just two minutes just two minutes”
The following day I asked Mahrez (the bald guy) where is Yahya with whom I had arranged some transportation. Mahrez he was extremely rude, abrupt and just seemed frustrated from some work he was doing but has no right to take it out on visiting tourists.
He continually said “your subject is with Yahya so you speak with him I don’t know I can’t help you” even tho I was only asking when Yahya would be back
After I got his name and realised I would write a review he was alot more calmer.
The ONLY good RECEPTION person at the hotel that we encountered was EMNA she is a wonderful lady even went to the local store with me to help me buy top up data on my phone and installed it on my phone as everything was in French or Arabic, not only that got an iron from next door as theirs was broken she was amazing. The cleaning staff and kitchen staff were also kind and sweet but did a terrible job with the cutlery as can been seen in my video.
I would HIGHLY suggest NOT to use the hotel transportation services or you will end up being charged 200 dinars for a 20 dinars journey.
I asked Yahya to arrange the transportation to Sidi Bou Said and he made a side hustle ( which I was unaware of ) and charged 200 Dinars and when I asked local people they all said maximum it’s 20 dinars even BOLT (taxi app) suggested it would be.
We were unable to use BOLT as were five people and it only takes four people.
There is mini van service ( LOUAGE )that runs from city to city and is just around the corner and altho it takes 8 people we were five so we just paid for the whole 8 seats as it was cheap and that way we didn’t have to wait for the mini van to fill up, as they have to fill it up before you leave, Yahha was charging over 350 dinars for a ride to Hammamet and this only cost 110 dinars there and back and it was private for us only.
Each seat cost 6.80 dinars one way so each way was 55 (54.40) dinars and a return 110 dinars.
Bottom line don’t use hotel transportation use BOLT if you are four or less and if you are more use the mini van which is just around the corner for city to city or the same mini van but yellow version which also carries 8 people ( for local travel ) just pay for the extra seats to make it private, it’s still way way cheaper.
THE HOTEL
The hotel was generally neat and tidy.
The beds were very short, I mean I’m only 5:6 and my feet were hanging over the bed.
The hotel is down an alley so really didn’t feel safe at all at night there is a lot of garbage down the alley as everyone uses it as a dumping ground which made it stink. Shown in pics
The balcony has no views apart from the opposite building. Shown in pics
LOCATION
The location of where it’s situated made it very easy walk to souk and transportation services. The French embassy was near by so there was a lot of police and military presence further up the road but down our road getting to the Rue De Suisse alley felt very unsafe even we asked the police for directions on the first night they said don’t go down that road you will get beaten up or things stolen.
OVERALL
I wouldn’t use this hotel again especially with kids. Take people names so they are aware that you can call them out that’s the only way the...
Read more5/5! I stayed here for 7 nights In early December 2024. I really enjoyed staying here. Great location with everything nearby. Rooms were small by Western standards but for me, it wasn’t an issue. The hotel looked exactly like the pictures. Great price & my room is the cleanest room I’ve ever stayed in at any hotel/apartment outside of my home country. Hotel was also very safe. I saw lots of reviews complaining about the hotel being in an alley but, as a solo female traveler who’s been to 23 countries — most of which are developing countries, I think this sentiment is overblown. Loved the 24 hour desk & the fact that they keep your key for you when you’re out. Breakfast wasn’t anything lavish but was just fine. In the morning, just go sit downstairs at one of the tables next to the front desk & someone from the the kitchen will bring you a tray. You get a bottle of water, a hard boiled/scrambled eggs, yogurt, a pastry & bread & coffee. I love cappuccinos & really liked theirs so much.
Special shout out to the staff, who were the best part of this hotel, especially Emna and Mohamed! You two are amazing & thank you both for making me feel like family! Emna is taking care of the stray cat who lives in the alley so give her some love if you see her. I actually left the hotel around 06:30 one morning to catch a louage & bumped into Emna on the sidewalk a couple blocks away & she was so worried about why I was up so early & asked me if I needed help. She’s so sweet! Loved seeing Mohamed at the front desk every night when I returned to the hotel. He was always there to answer my questions & just such a wonderful person. Emna and Mohamed are the best! Would definitely stay here again if I...
Read moreOur stay at Hotel Suisse was great - a perfect location within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and La Medina/Souks. Emna, one of the receptionists was exceptionally welcoming to us.||Breakfast was fine - generally a hard boiled egg, tangerine, crepe with nutella or an omlet, and a basket of bread. Mint tea (or coffee for my friend).||Bring toilet paper. They provide a small amount and there is some sort of hose next to the toilet, but how you would dry yourself is beyond me.||They provide a hair dryer. No airport shuttle, but they will call a taxi for you.|From the airport, we were overcharged - 20 Euros which is more than $20! But on the way to the airport just over 20 TND (which equates to $6.66||Our Tunisian friend escorted us for 2 full days, so we were able to see Sidi Bou Said, La Goulette, Carthage, and the Bardo, among other things. I don't recommend driving in Tunis. The city streets are busy with others pulling out in front of those who have the right of way. The 3 lane highway was 5 lanes of cars and motorcycles weaving in between. There were feral cats everywhere.||The people were so kind everywhere we went. They speak Arabic and French. Almost no English.||We fell in love with Tunis and maybe someday we...
