Restaurant La Mamma — Restaurant in Tunis

It is difficult to describe the disappointment this Restaurant generated in me. The service was basically non existent, while ordering the food, the waiter just left in the middle of the sentence to welcome other guests. Then he forgot one plate completely and did not believe us that we ordered it, so my company had to wait long time for his plate. The food seemed to be frozen microwaved food and the cordon bleu I ordered was burnt. The only thing that somehow tasted like something was the gratin de fruits de mers but my partner has now stomach ache, so we are not sure about its freshness. To top everything the bill was wrong and higher with a plate we did not order, instead of correcting it the waiter told us to recalculate the bill by ourselves.

La Mamma really won me over. From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel at home. Super friendly, attentive, and just easy to be around. The Mediterranean dishes were packed with flavor, cooked just right, and had that honest, comforting feel you only get from a place that knows what it’s doing. And the wine? Spot on. Great selection, served with care and a real understanding of pairing. Nothing over the top, just done right.

The vibe? Just perfect. The vintage decor gives the place a warm, lived-in charm, and there happened to be a local art exhibit while I was there, which made it even more lively and memorable. And I have to mention the guitar player that brought real heart to the place. It wasn’t just background music; it set the mood.

The first time we came here the waiter was lovely, and the place looks nice. The second time we came and sat on the second floor. The waiter came and was rude, when we asked for the drink menu (which we got last time) he repeatedly yelled THIS IS A RESTAURANT, and didnt respond when we asked what he meant. He refused to bring us a drink menu or serve us and told us no, shook his head at us, told us to leave. All out of nowhere. The rudest waiter Ive met here.

We also asked him multiple times when he came over “what should we do? Do you want us to leave?” And he just shook his head and walked away. We asked for the bill for the one beer he served us and he refused to bring it. He had his jaw clenched and just walked away each time and left us there...
