Stayed at Tiba for a few days & the hotel was not what we expected based on the online pictures & for the price point. ||The location is excellent, just off the main thoroughfare, Avenue Habib Bourguiba, and a short walk to Bab Bhar, which is the gateway to the medina. ||There was some confusion about the tourist tax which the hotel clarified had changed & the 2 dinar charge they had a display about was for Tunisians & Marghrebis. ||The shower stand was hanging off the wall in the first room the hotel gave us, so they gave us another room on a higher floor. The frame was coming off the mirror in the bathroom & one of the reading lights was hanging off as if it had been broken. Same with the door knob to the wardrobe. ||The hair dryer in the bathroom worked intermittently on the first evening, and there was a smell of burning fuse. The back of the hairdryer also looked very rusty. Reported that it wasn't working to the person at reception the next day who said "everything is OK" though he didn't really understand what I was reporting. Spoke to another person at reception who said they didn't have a spare hairdryer. Predictably, everything was not OK & the hairdryer did not work that evening. ||The room was a decent size & there was ample storage space but not enough hooks & hangers. In the bathroom there was only one hook for the towels. Toiletries are in small bottles rather than replenishable receptacles, so not great for the environment. ||The mattress was nice & firm but the pillows were way too high. There were quite a few mosquitoes in the room so it was hard to get a good night's sleep. ||When the cleaner cleaned the room on the second day we were there, they left a dirty shoe print in the bathroom which defeated the whole point of us requesting a room refresh. ||The tap at the sink was extremely stiff so it was next to impossible to adjust the temperature & felt like you were breaking the tap when turning it. The water was quite scalding if you didn't have the strength to wrestle with the tap! ||Neither of the rooms we were in had tea & coffee making facilities though the replacement room had a fridge. ||The breakfast didn't start on time at 7am in the morning & the selection is pretty limited. The cooked food, such as the eggs with veg & fried brik shaped like spring rolls, were bland. There were only oranges & no other fruit. Juices were cordial rather than freshly squeezed. There was cereal on offer, but no milk. We did enjoy the crepe which we had on the last morning, as well as the halwa chamia. ||Overall, Tiba was a very average hotel, with many things not working as they should, & the only positive thing is the location. Do not be taken in by the pictures as it's not a sleek business hotel. Just a basic hotel which can't get even the...
Read moreLocation is very good which is the main reason I chose this hotel. Reasonably priced too. You are right near the Médina de Tunis. The hotel is located on a side street off Avenue Habib Bourguiba where there are many eateries. Small, basic but clean. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Room was fine. No frills but there was hot water, air conditioning, some complimentary toiletries and more. No water. Breakfast was adequate for this type of hotel. They had cereals, breads, pastries, local Tunisian foods. Not huge but enough to start the day. Coffee is from a machine. WIFI wasn't the best but this appears to be a common issue in Tunisia. When you go out, you are expected to leave your key at reception. Housekeeping was done fine but just a little more attention to detail needed, especially when hoovering or mopping the floors. For a 3-star hotel,...
