Martineau Place — Local services in Birmingham

Poor old Martineau Place. It was never an inspired or inspiring piece of architecture and town-planning, either in itself or as a contribution to surrounding streetscapes.

Indeed it has made no small contribution to the destruction of the unity of upper Corporation St., and therefore to the commercial decay of that end of Birmingham's city centre.

At least when the Place opened it was still in the era of small shops. That over, it will take major reconception of the use of the land there to bring it back to life. Just maybe this will be done to benefit the wider area too, as part of a viable city centre, and visually too.

Meanwhile, it is somewhere to be scuttled past or, even worse, through. Poor old Martineau Place. Rather too many other areas like this in the city centre. ...

I visited because I was looking for a place to eat, in the end we decided to go to Yum Yums as it is a halal eatery although there are a couple of other places there as well. In future I think I will try the other places as Yum Yums is not what it used to be in terms of the taste of the food, and cleanliness was also lacking in my opinion if you are eating in, the tables were not cleaned after customers left. The staff are only visible when they are bringing your orders upstairs. Also the toilets definitely need to be modernised. Try it out for yourself though, this is...

Shame this part of the city is being neglected by Birmingham city council and the retail world when it first opened many years back you had h&m pizza hut baguette du mond, now it's mostly empty apart from 3rd rate food shops that look a little dirty. Homeless people are a issue around there and i was asked for some change more that once in the short time I was passing through.

Highlight was a young lad coming out of sainsburys singing I got me self some pineapple he was so happy about it he then dropped it all over the floor I've never laugh so...
