As much as I don't enjoy giving such low starred reviews given how poor an experience we sadly had today from our first visit to this houdinis escape room of Alcatraz I thought it only right for others to hear what we today sadly paid to experience. Firstly we have done alot of different escape rooms across the country and always had the host present watching so If we do get stuck there is an immediate echoing from a mic to help where needed -now this room was not like that I nearly jumped out my skin when Danny pulled down the shutter to the door to talk out support. Now I won't give away the escape room itself but we found hardly any clues were present to the inform you to the path to take and the ones about were so small and didn't have a tangiable connection without Danny needing to explain pretty much step by step what to do. At times we felt we very much were just in a room with no clue on what next we needed to do to work towards escaping and when we did have an idea on what we needed to do by any object or clue the clue found was chaotic as for far into the future or past there was no clear order and there too many unnecessary extras found making the experience poor and leaving us deflated that we couldn't alone actually play the game as there wasn't really a game to play. And as much as danny tried we didn't feel he was present to our game we are sure he had another at least he was covering - so we were just left with time tickingand then Danny actually given likely the room layout had to come into the game twice which never have we ever experienced and maybe if he had on prison guard dress and played the part in character this would be okay but it just felt like our game wasnt an escape room and when we did complete things there was no recognition like sounds playing to give you surity you need in game play to inform you you have completed a step correctly. All in all we have come away so deflated and feeling like we just waisted our money - they didn't even photo us at the end - thankfully the arcade in the tenpin place the escape room is located at and their team was good but yeah on feedbacking to Danny at the end not that he asked us if we had enjoyed the experience he just was focused to inform us that this was their hardest room and not many people get past the first section and that the room clues have been designed in line with a prison and for more clues he recommends the titanic room which is all great but doesn't change that we had a sadly very poor experience today and do feel...

We escaped - success. The theming in this room is great. Everything in the rooms fits with the theming and the props were suitable and fun. We loved the "lifejacket" element :) and definitely got lost in the story. Puzzles were suitably puzzling with nothing too taxing. Mixture of physical and mental puzzles was good too. Some of the tech wasn't working :( (host cameras & screens in sections that didn't do anything). There was a crawling element to this room but alternative assistance was given when a member of our team couldn't do the crawling due to an injury which was really inclusive and appreciated. The room was fun and everyone in our group enjoyed it. Thank you Houdini's.

We escaped - success. We placed 2nd on the leaderboard - great. This room was quirky and the layout was fun. Theming was great and props really added to the feel. It was quite a small space - we were a group of 4 adults and I'd say that it was too busy. A max of 2 or 3 adults or 4 children in that room - just due to space, accessibility and fair distribution of puzzles. There were some really clever moments in the puzzles and the play of the game that made it a really nice experience. Puzzles were suitably puzzling with nothing too taxing. Again broken tech in this room (a mag door that didn't work and a TV screen that didn't play anything in a wardrobe) which always makes me wonder what our experience missed had those elements been working. Thank you Houdini's for a fun game.
I would say both these rooms could happily suit friends, couples, families and even (older) children to play it based on the experience we had. Our hosts were really polite and really enthusiastic and that always helps make a game.
Overall a good game. Overall a very good experience. Overall a...
Read moreWe did the Houdini escape room and it was my first escape room. I will talk about the escape room so if you don't want anything to be spoiled don't read the rest of this review.
We were told the story before we started and they told us that we were stage hands and that the performance was meant to start but Houdini was no where to be seen. They gave us two options for hints, we can either ask for hints or the people on the cameras can tune in when ever they want and give us a hint.
We are in the first room and there is a panel with wheel that have numbers that we need to spin and a handle on the panel. There are 5 ropes and behind them there is a key, the door that we entered in had rules on what needed to happen for the show to begin so you had to go to the panel and do what it told you to do then you pull the lever down and you are in the next escape room.
I don't remember much about this room and it is the most interesting so I won't speak much about it so that I don't spoil much because this is the best room and it is better if you do the room yourself rather than just listening about everything you do from me.
So, in the second room, there was a chamber , a vase looking thing in the corner, a wardrobe, boxes, locks and cards that were glued down . I can't tell you about the locks because that would help you open them snd figure the escape room out so I will just leave it at that.
If you want something fun and something to get your minds thinking you should definitely give this a try !
10/10 I...
