Tried to walk in at 19:30 and we were turned away when the restaurant was practically empty (about 6 people sat down) the greet staff actively tried to send us somewhere more expensive (£150 for two people we were quoted) we went outside to check online booking availability and there was nothing booked from 19:30 until close so we booked the next slot at 19:45 and walked back inside and said “we managed to book a table” for the greet staff (who we found out later was a manager) to say “well I guess I’ll have to seat you now, I would have put you in when you came in earlier if I had the space. You’re not likely to have a good experience now as we are busy and the kitchens overwhelmed” (still only around 6 people eating in the whole place at this point).
We were seated and kept receiving stares and side eye from the manager who “greeted” us and who quite frankly had an atrocious attitude.
Ordered regular coke and received diet
Food took way too long to arrive, was average at best, not worth the price. Steaks were undercooked, both were ordered medium we received one rare and one close to blue but somehow charred, the sides were bizarre or just poor quality, garlic mushrooms that had clearly been microwaved, and “corn on the cob” that consisted of four slices of a corn cob that were drowning in what can only be described as supercharger sauce from kfc, coriander, and some kind of cubed soft cheese
The only positive of the whole experience was our server Ellie who looked like she was the only person on shift doing anything at all! She kept a smile on her face even though she was rushed off her feet waiting on every table alone (more people had come in since we’d sat down) she was friendly, attentive and apologetic. She is the only reason I haven’t rated the service lower
Whoever the manager on that shift was needs to be knocked down a few levels and get a serious attitude adjustment and Ellie should run a shift or...
Read moreAs walk in customers, we where seated given table water fast however that's where the speed went to a complete stand still. About 20 minutes wait just to order drinks and the food even though there was multiple waitresses standing around having a chat throughout this wait. Finally our server Waheed arrived to take our order. Some people like that kind of service however I found it over the top and quite fake asking first names and what not is just weird in a restaurant setting in my opinion. Anyway drinks came and then it was 40 minute wait between the drinks arriving and the starters arriving. The restaurant wasn't even busy probably not even 1/3 capacity. Although the starters where ok one was tepid at this stage I wasn't about to wait another 40 minutes for a reeeplacement and just ate it. After finishing the starter the main came quite soon after although ordered the Chateaubriand 16oz and felt very short changed at the price compared to what we got. It definitely didn't seem like 16oz although it was very nice, the garlic mushroom side was lovely, the "triple cooked chips" tasted like any other you'd put in your frier at home, the asparagus was well overdone. Then waiting around for someone to ask for a bill. There was enough staff but not enough actually working! Waheen seemed like the only wait staff actually doing anything. Finally we get the bill which was wrong however he'd noticed and changed it. He was apologetic about the service and I told him I'd noticed staff standing around while we waited and he replied "I know" like it was an expected thing there.
This whole experience took around 2 hours in total and wasn't cheap. They're marketing themselves as quite a nice place which it is but the food and service doesn't...
Read moreEvery time we come to this Bar + Block we have a fantastic meal. We've always found the staff to be professional, friendly and very helpful. On this visit, we were greated by Waheed, a really nice guy from Egypt, who was very polite and friendly and likes to call you by your first name if your amenable for him to do so, which was refreshing. He couldn't do enough for us. We decided to start with 4 small plates for £21. They consisted of Asian Crispy Beef (Tossed in hoisin, cucumber, spring onions, chilli and coriander), Garlic King Prawns (Cooked over charcoal with plenty of garlic butter, served with stonebaked flatbread), Salt + Pepper Squid (With fresh chilli and parsley, served with garlic mayo) & Beef Burnt Ends (Drizzled with homemade chimichurri). All were really nice, but the Asian Crispy Beef and Salt + Peeper Squid were sensational. We were off to a good start. We had the 14oz Spiral Cut Angus Ribeye & Bar + Block House Salad with Salmon Fillet for our mains. With a side of Onion Rings and a Baked Potato. The Ribeye was absolutely fantastic, it melted in your mouth like butter, The triple cooked chips were really crispy and I loved them. The Chimichurri sauce was on point as well. The Onion rings were super crispy and melted in the mouth also. The salad and Salmon had the perfect balance of salad, dressing and avocado. Along with the Salmon and Baked Potato, was a major hit for my wife. We were full this time and had no room for a pudding. Another great meal at Bar + Block and it was a pleasant experience with Waheed. Looking forward to...
