Review: Buffalo Trace London ā Tradition and Change Tasting
The Buffalo Trace London Tradition and Change tasting was an engaging and well-organized event, made all the better by our host, Lindsay, whose knowledge, enthusiasm, and entertaining style kept the session lively and enjoyable.
The four spirits on offer showcased the quality and craftsmanship of Buffalo Trace. The White Dog New Make had a distinct grainy character with a touch of sweetness, offering a fascinating look at whiskey before aging. The Buffalo Trace Bourbon was tasty, though itās a shame that the UK version is a lower ABV than its American counterpartāoddly, it seemed to have a stronger alcohol burn despite that. The Eagle Rare 10 Year Old stood out as an excellent value-for-money whiskey, boasting a smooth profile with deep, complex flavors. However, the real highlight was the Colonel E.H. Taylorāa truly premium whiskey that delivered everything youād hope for in a high-end bourbon.
The Old Fashioned cocktail, unfortunately, was underwhelmingāoverly sweet and lacking the punch of the spirit that should be the star of the drink.
A perk of the event was the 20% discount in the shop, a welcome addition even if it didnāt apply to the spirits themselves. However, the shopās limited selection of spirits was disappointing. Despite Buffalo Trace producing an incredible range of whiskeysāincluding Blantonās, W L Weller, Pappy Van Winkle, Benchmark, Old Charter, Elmer T. Lee, and Ancient Ageāmost were absent. Even the Colonel E.H. Taylor, which featured in the tasting, wasnāt available for purchase.
Buffalo Trace is one of the most prolific and high-quality distilleries in the world, and this event was a fantastic introduction to some of its best offerings. But with such a strong lineup of whiskeys, it feels like a missed opportunity not to showcase a wider range.
Overall, a great experience with top-notch hosting and excellent spirits, but the retail selection could be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently had the pleasure of attending the Buffalo Trace London Tasting Experience, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The ambiance was perfectly set to delve into the world of bourbon, with an intimate setting that made each guest feel special and welcomed.
A highlight of the evening was undoubtedly Annie. Her deep knowledge and passion for Buffalo Trace's rich history and diverse range of flavors truly elevated the experience. Annie guided us through each tasting with precision and flair, offering insightful anecdotes and detailed explanations that made every sip an adventure.
The selection of bourbons showcased the remarkable craftsmanship and dedication of Buffalo Trace. From the smooth and complex notes of the classic Buffalo Trace Bourbon to the rich and robust flavors of the more exclusive offerings, each pour was a testament to the distillery's commitment to excellence.
Annie's ability to engage and educate, combined with the exceptional quality of the bourbons, made this tasting experience unforgettable. As a bourbon enthusiast, I found myself wishing they would offer a special allocation for us to take home, allowing us to savor these exceptional spirits even after the tasting concluded.
I should note that the Buffalo Trace London location is not a distillery but a gift shop with a charming tasting room in a great location. Despite this, the experience remains top-notch and well worth a visit.
Whether you're a seasoned bourbon aficionado or new to the world of whiskey, the Buffalo Trace London Tasting Experience with Annie is a must-visit. I can't recommend it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI attended the Sazerac Barrel Tasting and it was incedible and well worth the price of admission! I arrived early and had a chance to check out the gift store which included lots of Buffalo Trace apparel and branded goods to elevate your home bar. The staff were very friendly and even allowed us to sample tastes of Sazerac Rye, Wheatly Vodka, Travellers Whiskey, and Bourbon Cream. And all of these bottles were available for purchase as well, including 45% abv Buffalo Trace Whiskey and Eagle Rare 10 year. For the tasting, we entered the back room which was adorned with some of the more exclusive bottles (but just to look at,not for purchase). Our guide Eliza poured us small Glen Carins of the regular production Buffalo Trace whiskey plus 3 additional single barrel offereings of Buffalo Trace whiskey. She took her time explaning the differences of the individual barrels in where and how they were stored during aging. And how these differences impacted the flavors of each. As we sampled each we got to discuss the notes we picked up on the nose as well as the flavors found in each. Finally, we each picked our own favorite and recieved that bottle to take home. She even surprised us with a small taste of Eagle Rare 10 year and Weller Special Reserve. Afterwards, we received a 20% discount on in store merchandise (not for alcohol). Overall it was a great experience and would highly recommed it. Nex time I'm in London, I will probably...
