The Covent Garden Store is fine, as any store in that area would need to be. But I would definitely suggest avoid buying anything from their online store. From what I can see from other reviews (that I wish I would have read earlier), my experience is common. Orders fulfilled incorrectly with wrong items or missing items and communication with them is difficult or non existent. They often don’t reply, or reply only after many emails, only to fob you off for another week or so. As I said, in store, they seemed nice enough, but via email they seem as if they are just hoping you get tired of chasing them up and forget about your order and the money you have lost.
On the 25th April I ordered a 12 half pan set of watercolour paints on sale from London Graphics Centre online store for £40. I live in Spain so I opted for collecting my order from the Covent Garden store a few days later as I would be in London for a week. When I went to pick up my order they gave a 6 half pan set instead of the one I had ordered. Thankfully, in one of my confirmation emails, it clearly stated that I had purchased a 12half pan set as the item was no longer available to buy on their site. They explained that their web designer had made a mistake and placed the wrong photo and description on the store. They offered to return my money or to give me a 20% discount off something else in store. (Considering these are London prices, after comparing to prices online, I could still get everything cheaper from many other places even after their 20% discount, I insisted I still wanted the product I purchased.) I was told that they would need to speak to their manager and that they would call me back when the manager was back to let me know what could be done.
So far so good. Honest mistake, and they seemed to be dealing with it well. (At this point, I hadn’t read any google reviews and didn’t know these sorts of problems were a common occurrence). They called back as they said they would and said they would be able to send out my order to my address in Spain. I emailed my address to them on the 28th and waited for an email to confirm that they had promised to send me my order and had received my address. On the 3rd of May they finally replied saying they would be receiving the palette on the 9th and would forward it onto me. After several emails from me following up, they finally replied on the 22nd to tell me that they had the palette and would be sending it out to me asap. On the 30th of May, they finally told me they had sent out the palette.
Now this part is my fault. I never expected to have it delivered to me and was in the middle of my holiday, and just wanted to receive it as soon as possible so I sent them my Spain address. Had I thought it through, I would have had it delivered to my UK address and just picked it up the next time I was over in October. I didn’t expect to receive a bill for 11.92euros import duty + 22.66euros for fees, totaling 33.58. I couldn’t pay this as when I ordered my palette at 40pounds on sale thinking it would be worth the time and effort during my holiday to go to pick it up. But now adding what would be an extra 28pounds, totaling 68pounds, plus time wasted from an expensive holiday, It wasn’t worth while. So first I emailed London Graphics to ask if they had included the price I had paid for the palette or the current price in my customs invoice. As per usual no reply. I asked London Graphics if they would be willing to pay for the fees, and I would pay for the import duty alone. Again, silence. I decided to have it sent back anyway and I emailed London Graphics to have them send it to my UK address. Again, silence. Again, I emailed them asking for instructions for payment for the second delivery. Still silence. I have been emailing them every week or so since and haven’t heard anything from them since May 30th. I have had no refund, and no reply. It is now September 4th and I am pretty sure I just wasted 40pounds so I thought I should write this review. (The only google review I think I have...

Read moreDon't you just hate it when you go in a shop and ask for a product and rather than advising that they don't have it because they don't have an account with the trade supplier they lie and tell you it is simply not available any more, then when you explain that it is they tell you that you are mistaken? That is the worst form of trading, by deceit. It gets worse, you've requested a specific product, well known in the design industry for over 30 years and they haven't heard of it but suggest an inferior pen that has the same colour case.
Then, you try them out on another product, hmm, lets try detail paper and they look ashamed then tell you that they don't know what it is. I just checked and LGC claim to sell it on the computer, so they don't know what they sell. Fools.
I was shopping at the London Graphics Centre at their original site in Long Acre back in 1988. Back then heaven for designers, the range unsurpassed, now a shadow of its former self, little more than a glorified toy shop selling the odd pen to tourists. Now the smart money is on a certain online pen supplier, based in Tiverton, where I buy Rotring tikky pens and they stock all manner of Rotring products. Can you believe that they have 87,000 5 star reviews? You tell them what you want and its with you within 48 hours. No B.S.
Perhaps LGC should contact them and ask who their distributor is so they can sell arguably the worlds finest 0.5mm disposable technical pen to London's denizens.
Time to change the LGC Shelton Street into something useful such as a hostel for...
