Akron Children's Museum — Local services in Akron

For $5 per person I guess you shouldn’t expect too much. My son had a lot of fun playing but all the learning items were kinda a waste. I was a bit baffled when my son and I walked in to find all of the produce crates completely empty. When I looked around I noticed all of the produce was dumped into a single bin around a corner from the crates. When I saw this I thought 🤷🏻‍♂️ Oh well kids will be kids. Then while I was looking at it an employee with a pony and purple shoes walked up. He literally said to me “My break starts in 5 minutes, I guess it’s someone else’s problem.” Yikes!! I know, I know, we should all be more tolerant of ignorance just because it’s hard to find workers right now but come on. Who says something like that to a paying customer. I also posted a picture of the monster maker space which was completely destroyed and out of supplies. It looked this way for the entire 2 hours we were there playing. I didn’t take a picture but there was a circuit creating set for kids to use but it didn’t even have enough wire to make a circuit. Yes, I agree with others that the prices are reasonable, but reasonable doesn’t help if there’s nothing there to actually play with! My kids still had fun during our visit this week, but definitely not as much fun as they had a year ago when the toys were in much better shape. I feel like everything they picked up was broken, or just sad. Want to build a car to drive down the ramp? - sorry, there are no more LEGO wheels. Want to sail boats in the water? - sorry there’s not actually enough water in the boat area to actually sail them. (Can no one just fill it up?) Want to fly the scarves up the wind tunnel? - J/k there are only 3 of them that you have to share with the 10 other kids that want to play too. Those scarves must cost like $2 on Amazon and they arrive in a day! There was one ball to use on the ramps and I wanted to Lysol my kids after they put on the costumes that smell like sweat. I’m sure those are the same unwashed ones they wore last year. Maybe there are budget issues, maybe we hit it on an off day, or hopefully they are in the process of buying new toys. But until they give the toys a refresh, I’d much rather pay $5 more per kid and...

I took my 2 year old granddaughter to the "museum" this week. It is conveniently located downtown in the lower level of Lock 3, with accessible parking ( $2 when you have your ticket stamped by the museum). The cost is $5 per person so I paid $20 for my granddaughter, myself, my son and daughter- in -law. There are many little sections which provide plenty of opportunity. There was a grocery store with little shopping carts, veggies, kitchenettes with cooking supplies. A veterinarian station complete with x rays and kennels.There are art stations and building stations, a race car ramp, giant Lego building experience, pour and fill station, a large "Light Bright" and several other opportunities. My granddaughter loved her time there and one could easily spend 2-3 hours. There really didn't appear to be a traditional "museum" but it was quite an enjoyable experience for my granddaughter. There is an opportunity to purchase food there and also just outside the activity center there is a place where you may sit and eat the food that you bring...
