Western Ace Hardware — Local services in Alamogordo

One of my favorite stores in the Alamogordo Area.

This is my go to for basic home improvement and they have a pretty good selection of firearms and ammunition as well. Super friendly people with reasonable prices and selections.

I have been shopping at ACE regularly for the past 6 months with no complaints. My last visit really stands out though and prompted me to leave this review:

I came in with a simple little project involving PVC piping and fittings. Like many 'do it yourselfers', I had more of an idea then a solid plan of what I needed to get it done. I was the customer that needed some help finding items and some advice on what fittings would work best. The young lady that assisted me was very friendly and seemed eager to make sure I got the right products. When she saw that my hands were getting full, she promptly brought me a cart (How many places bring YOU the cart you forgot to get?). After spending a good thirty minutes giving me advice and helping me decide on the right parts for my little project, I noticed at checkout that I was the last customer and they were unlocking the exit door to let me out. Not only had this young lady been incredibly patient and helpful, she did so all the while I was keeping her late at work!

I give this place one star because of what happened to me with the auto care center. I had an appointment for a vehicle alignment with them. I showed up at the scheduled time and waiting in the little side office for about 10 min before anyone came to ask me if I needed help. When someone finally did come see me, they told me that I would have to come back in about an hour or so, because they had to take in an “emergency alignment” from a body shop. I went to this place because of the good reviews, and maybe I was just the one in 100 that got unlucky, who knows? I ended up going to another local place with good reviews that same day because they could fit me in in a reasonable amount of time. I’m not sure what an “emergency alignment” is, but I assume it just means someone was willing to pay more, so my appointment meant nothing to them, even though I definitely had a lot of other time sensitive things going on that day that this threw a wrench into. Like I said before, maybe I was just the isolated case, and they are actually awesome 99% of the time, but I figured I’d share...

My father brought his truck here for new upper and lower control arms on the passenger side. They did not align the truck and claimed the suspension needed to "settle" before they could align it two weeks later. The steering wheel is a full 1\4 turn off from center. The cv shaft outer boot was punctured during the control arm replacement and when this issue was brought to John the Manager, he states they are not liable for "old used parts that break during service". The boot was getting old and starting to Crack but was NOT punctured, and now it is. It's very obvious it was damaged during the repairs, and was completely avoidable damage.
