I shopped at Big 5 for almost a decade. I would buy a sporting goods for toys for tots annually. I purchased almost all my shoes there. Their prices are good and they have great coupon deals. But one experience with an assistant manager at the Albany Oregon store soured me on Big 5. I paid with a $100 bill, The assistant manager would not accept it. He said that he could not tell whether it was fake or not even though he had a blue light scanner. So I gave him a different $100 bill that was actually a different era. And after examining that he said he still did not know whether or not this new bill was any good. Both bills were legal government issue and have been spent since. But he kept me there for 15 minutes asking me to pay with a credit card. I finally paid with a credit card and that rude interaction, his rude demeanor and his derogatory comments have made me delete my account with Big 5. I am soured on the whole chain at this point. I knew what I wanted when I went in, a cot and a utility/decline bench.
I located the cot almost immediately, then proceeded to browse around before locating the utility bench. Floor space is at a premium, and the bench was not on display, but in the storeroom. So, I handed the employee my ticket, and crossed the store to grab the cot. Upon returning to the area outside the storeroom I was informed by another employee my item was already waiting at checkout.
Awesome, efficient service. Virtually everything you could need sports/outdoors.
I'm going to have to come back when I can spend time finding my next pair of shoes. My occupation has my putting about 100 miles on my feet a week so I go through tires pretty quick.
Nice work today, Big...
Read moreI had received a back to school voucher didn't realize it was for a different location but the blonde haired lady who initially assisted me was on the phone when I was trying to purchase shoes for my kids and got another associate to then take over helping. Treated me like I was trash on the street rude demeanor no kindness at all when I entered the store. The only kindness I received was when I first was looking for shoes for my kids. I had much better service at Corvallis location! Hire people who don't suck so much working with the general public who knows how to smile and treat customers with respect...
