I visited the shop on 4/9 looking for my wedding dress. I went in and was greeted by this very sweet lady. I explained to the lady I didn’t know my style/shape/size as I had a breast reduction and just had a baby. She said no worries we will find you a dress let’s look on this rack that was about size 14-20. The seamstress then came up and told me I was in the wrong section and “god bless you” but I was going to rip the zippers on the dress and needed to go to the other side of the rack. The lady helping me looked at her and said “she just had a baby!?!” The seamstress was completely rude and off putting but the lady helping me with the dresses was very kind but seemed stressed and pressured by the seamstress. They had me in size 30 dresses that were way to large!!! I found a dress I liked there but decide to not support a business that thinks it’s okay to shame women. There’s a nice way to make suggestions and then there’s just being rude. Definitely recommend David’s bridal 10 minutes away, they are very kind and helpful and had me in a beautiful size 18 gown without body shaming me.
Second bad review for sue Ames. My two junior bridesmaids decided to purchase their dresses for my wedding. Due to the wedding being in less than 6 months the girls were handed a limited color swatch. Which I then picked the color I liked from that particular color swatch and manufacturer. The girls tried on the style they liked and ordered their dresses. They got a phone call from stating sue Ames ordered the dresses from the wrong manufacturer and we will have to pick a new color. They did not want to pick a new color because they weren’t sure what color I would like. So I was given the phone number to reach Susan. I called her and she was “in an appointment”. So I told the lady that I needed a call back today to get it figured out and get my girls a refund since I am not driving 45+ minutes back out to the store to pick out a new swatch since the lady who ordered the dresses made a mistake. I didn’t receive a call back so I called an hour later and Susan conveniently left for the day.
Absolutely amazed at how terrible this business is run! I will update my post when I finally get a call back and refund from the...
Read moreSue Ames Bridal Outlet was the first bridal shop I visited for my May 2022 wedding. A few years prior when I was a bridesmaid for a friend and I accompanied her for her dress shopping at Bridal by Sandra in Nazareth I was blown away by the service and selection they provided my friend. When I heard that Sue Ames is the outlet shop for Bridal by Sandra I knew to visit Sue Ames when my time came. There is nothing wrong with the dresses at Sue Ames that they are at an outlet shop, they are simply those not selling as fast or in demand.
When I shopped for a wedding dress last December for my May 2022 my mother and three bridesmaids accompanied me. I had already looked online at wedding dresses and have attended several weddings that I had a pretty good idea what I wanted (ballgown, non-beaded lace, and sleeves). I like the elegant and timeless look. Amal was able to find a dress that matched that description right away. It didn't look enticing on the hanger, as so many other clothing may have that effect, but when I tried on my Casablanca Beloved gown it was magic and I was in love with it.
We went to David's Bridal but every dress there I compared it to "the dress at Sue Ames". When I shop for everyday clothing, I tend to shop at boutiques, thrift, consignment etc. I prefer not to be overwhelmed by an abundance of options. When I have a smaller selection to choose to from, I actually make a purchase. The items I tried at David's blended together, but at Sue Ames because it is a smaller business, I was the focus of Amal's attention and each dress I tried at Sue Ames was its own. I could quickly tell the difference that the dresses at Sue Ames were of a much higher quality material than at David's.
It was so nice that I worked with same person from first fitting, alternations, to taking the dress home. I love small businesses for the connections that I make with the staff and Sue Ames certainly stands out. Give Sue Ames a chance, you will not be disappointed.
Only drawbacks are that because it is a small bridal shop, some brides may not find "the dress", but Sue Ames is certainly a good start. The building could be nicer, but that does not do any determent to the...
Read moreShopping for a wedding dress was at times a frustrating experience. Mostly because there are so many beautiful dresses out there, but for me, someone who is a very conscious spender, the price tags were just ridiculous! It was such a relief to find SueAmes! I enjoyed the experience of buying off the rack instead of waiting months to have a dress ordered out of a catalog. They have a small but diverse selection and you won't have to look at the price tag before trying a dress on. The staff and manager were very friendly and honest about the fit and style of the dress. I never felt like I was being hustled into buying anything. The seamstress also did a wonderful job of altering my dress from a size 16 to a size 4 and she was able to assist me in deciding what changes would work with the dress and which wouldn't. Its great to shop around a bit, so that you can appreciate the true value and quality of...
