Historic U.S. Army Balloon School at Ross Field was built on 184 acres donated by Anita Baldwin on land she inherited from her father, Elias Jackson "Lucky" Baldwin. It was named in honor of Lt. Cleo J. Ross who was the only soldier in the Balloon Corps to die due to aerial activity. Although short-lived, the balloon school became the premiere training grounds for the Balloon Signal Corps. The school was closed in 1919 with the end of World War I. It saw limited post-WWI use as a small civilian airfield and was where famed aviatrix Pancho Barnes learned to fly. The land is now used for various commercial purposes including the Methodist Hospital, and the largest area is now Santa Anita Golf Course. The only remaining parts of Ross Field U.S. Army Balloon School are the Base Operations Center (BOC), which is now the Arcadia Elks Lodge No. 2025, and a stone wall next to the BOC which was a part of the old camp...

Great venue for an intimate event! We rented the Lounge and it was perfect! The price is very affordable and well worth it. Celebrated my daughter’s graduation party here this past week and everything was taken care of which allowed me to really enjoy the day with my daughter, family and friends. We had the hall decorated by Jorge (his IG: jh_eventservice) who did a beautiful job and captured what I wanted for the evening. Our bartender Clarabel was very knowledgeable on the drink mixology and the drinks were on point! There was enough space for everyone to move around without looking crowded or bare. The restrooms were clean and functional lol. All this was possible with the help of our coordinator, Evan. He took the time to answer all of our questions, gave us great recommendations and on the day of the event was there to make sure everything was taken care. Couldn’t ask for more in coordinator. My Pop and Mom were long time Members. When Mom passed away 4 years after Pop, the Elks had a Memorial tree in their honor and it was moving, heartfelt and they went all out to honor my parents. I will be forever grateful to the Arcadia Elks for their everlasting dedication to my parents and all Elks, living and past.
