I’ve suffered from plantar fasciitis. I now have a resurgence of a tailor’s bunion after having it removed once. Yesterday’s walk was SO painful, both in full flair, so I started looking online at shoes.
After extensive research, I went to Astoria and bought new shoes. My fellow walkers—THESE ARE THE BEST WALKING/RUNNING SHOES I’VE EVER OWNED. (I’ve walked 380 miles since the pandemic began.)
Zero break in time. Zero pinch. Zero slip. Zero rub. 100% comfort. Simply amazing.
I walked 1.4 miles today before I felt any fatigue in my foot.
These are the New Balance Fresh Foam 860a11. I opted for wides because of the bunion. Great decision.
I went to Gimre’s in Astoria and bought these for the same price as having them delivered to my door. Bezos doesn’t need more money, but Gimre’s—family owned since the late 1800s, does, especially during COVID.
They are SO safe. Only six customers allowed in at a time. Masks required and hand sanitizer must be used upon entry.

Read moreThis place is definitely gem in Astoria quality shoes but as well quality service I went in there barely walking my feet were killing me I needed something it was 10 minutes to closing time...... I believe it was Pete Gimre himself stayed open for me and sold me a great pair of shoes,, thank you sir. I walked out of that store with a brand new pair of shoes and felt way better on my feet than a pair of leading brand shoes available at a box store not for me though I want to keep my dollars local..... And over 30 years ago I remember getting my shoes there as well at Gimres as a little kid and I was so excited to get my egg from their Golden goose which I'm happy to see that it is at least up high up on the shelf saved after all these years.... My brother and I would get so excited see what pops out of that goose.. was if candy or would it be a toy you never knew. Keep up the good work...
Read moreI would give 0 stars if i could. I went in to see if they would have Birks in my little sisters size and as soon as I walked through the doors all 3 employees inside were giving me weird looks, I instantly felt uncomfortable but persisted to try to ask the questions I had. I got completly ignored and then accused of stealing my work shoes which were on my feet. I work hard for my money and was appaled at how I was treated. They even had the nerve to ask me to take off my shoe when I was walking out the door to go back to work and then one of the employees FOLLOWED ME back to my work. I have only visited this store with my grandma when I was a kid and I will never chose to return to this...
