I have bought 3 computers from this guy and sent a lot of business his way, recently I took one of my MacBooks to him because it started moving really slow, buffering all the time and as a DJ that’s a night mare, I asked him what would be the best solution should I take my 2 Terra byte hard drive out and turn it into a external hard drive , and use my newer Mac , so he said only thing we could do is try and it didn’t work , he persisted in having me pay him for diagnostics that was so call gonna take a few days which was unacceptable for me so I asked him to purchase a 2 terra byte usb and I would gradually transfer my music crates one by one when he told me the price of the usb I went on Amazon and saw it much cheaper so asked him what’s the difference and there was non, this Chinese man lost it and started getting loud talking about that’s why he doesn’t touch any computer without taking money first so I keep my cool and said there must be a misunderstanding I didn’t say I wasn’t gonna get yours I was just checking my options as a consumer. At this point I was a pissed I told him just put my computer back together which was just a matter of putting a few screws in he gave me the total and labor charges and as I was about to pay I said to hell with this guy he appeared very prejudice and I refused to business with him I paid him $40.00 for taking out screws and left I will never support that place again and the kicker is when I got home my computer was working perfectly…after he told he my computer was corrupted and he had to install a new operation system he takes advantage of people that’s not computer literate ..God...
Read moreI recently had an issue where my motherboard shorted, and somehow wasn't detecting front or back inputs from USB, network, etc. Since the board could boot to bios I was, at the time, positive it was a software issue, but because of my unique circumstances, I was unable to test my theory with my USB keyboard and mouse. I figured I could use a ps/2 keyboard to bypass needing USB. Out of 5 places I called, this was the first and only place that had one. (Hell, GIM was the only place that didn't ask me why I wanted a keyboard for a PlayStation 2!)
Their price was incredibly fair for older tech, and the gentleman that helped me was knowledgeable and did what he could to inform me what could be the issue. This all happened during the current COVID-19 pandemic, so I was also impressed with the measures they used to make it a sanitary transaction. That is honestly why this is 4 stars instead of 3 - the way the gentleman handled himself gave me a feeling of comfort that he was taking such measures with his merch and health.
Still, the customer service was kinda awkward at certain points during the whole interaction. When I called and explained the situation and what I needed, the gentleman who answered me was a bit condescending considering what I asked for (it was nice not to think it was a PS2 peripheral, though). The gentleman that helped me was nicer but still had some sharpness to his voice and attitude. I'm not sure if this was the same gentleman or anything, but it's obvious something was bothering him.
Overall, though, decent experience. Will go again, and if the customer service improves upon second visit, I will...
Read moreFirst, I will never buy another item from GIM Computer and if you are in the market for a used computer...BUYER BEWARE!
I just left GIM Computers after returning a used Mac Book Pro that I purchased only 2 months ago. Earlier today it just stopped working. I took the computer back knowing that the warranty was only for 3 weeks, however hoping it was nothing major. The story I got was that the logic board went bad due to some kind of liquid spill. This was an entirely bogus claim and instead of owning up to the fact that I was sold a defective machine, they wanted to place the blame on me. I am not upset with GIM Computers. I am upset with myself for trusting them. The 3-week warranty was done, and I had no recourse for any type of refund, so the honest thing to do was just admit that there was an issue with the computer. To make matters worst, a women behind the counter who I assumed was Mr Gim's wife smirked "why didn't I buy a new one" and then laughed. I will never get my $450 back but GIM Computers will never get another dime from me. I have done business with in the past, and I am pretty sure I would have spent more than $450 over the long run. If you get a used computer from them...buyer beware! There is a moral to this story...always listen to your significant other. After talking the owner, she said he was not to be trusted and warned me about getting this computer from...
