Update 9/30/2026 - management reached out to express his apologies on the situation. His excuse for the whole situation was that their system was not optimized to track cancellation request - which leads to the issue I encountered as well as other people who have reviewed this gym. He attempted to intercept the collections payment but was unsuccessful. However, he did offer to pay less than half which to me was not satisfactory since being sent to collections was not my fault. This was definitely an appreciated effort but it does not make it right. I made the necessary effort to make things right ahead of time and I was ignored - resulting in the collections agency calling and me being forced to pay the $455. It was the result of a poor business process and ignorance to what issues they had in their systems leading ongoing reviews of predatory subscriptions. I am disappointed to say that management did not follow through on their word which reinforces the dishonest nature of this gym. Again, this is more than poor customer service—it is predatory, dishonest, and exploitative. This exact situation is a perfect example of dishonest business and the issues with contracts with gyms. They have writing that captures the ability for relocation circumstances. They will continue billing you as long as possible, then damage your credit when you’ve had enough. If you value honesty and people keeping their word, steer clear of this business. ——
I had a very similar experience to another reviewer on here. If I could give zero stars, I would. I had to cancel my membership due to being on a long-term work contract that required me to relocate prior to the end of the two year commitment. The gym staff communicated to me that I would have no issue ending my contract early given my circumstances. I provided the documentation of my situation that the local gym mentioned I had to supply. I sent multiple emails to the directed management individual with no response. I eventually stopped paying the bill because they refused to reply to my emails. I continued paying for only a few months after my usage of the gym stopped, just to avoid conflict— I received multiple phone calls reminding me to pay the bill, I explained that I have sent emails to the directed individual to cancel the membership. Management ignored me the entire time. They didn't hesitate to send me to collections
When I finally stopped paying, they immediately sent me to collections. In other words, they knowingly charged me for services I could not access, ignored my attempts to cancel in good faith, and then punished me for their own refusal to act. Just recently, the collections agency mentioned that my "request" was not approved which was never communicated to me. The total cancellation cost me $455.08. The collections agency was condescending and refused to help me work through the above described issue. I was forced to pay this "cancellation fee" to avoid hitting my credit.
This is more than poor customer service—it is predatory, dishonest, and exploitative. This exact situation is a perfect example of dishonest business. They will continue billing you as long as possible, then damage your credit when you’ve had enough. If you value integrity, transparency, or even the bare minimum of professionalism, steer clear of this business. Even more so if you travel on the road and find yourself anywhere in the Augusta Area that has a...
Read moreThis gym is easy on the eyes when you first walk in; the clean floors, multiple banks of cardio machines, and plenty of elbow room suggest a comfortable, yet thorough workout experience. Unfortunately, this is the only truly positive thing I can say for this gym.
I joined this gym as a novice to "working out" - I couldn't name any machine except the elliptical and the treadmill! When I explained this to the salesperson signing me up for membership, they assured me that I would get a free personal training session to start out so that I wouldn't be quite so lost. I asked if I could bring in a friend to walk me through my workouts, but was told that I had to use the Gold's trainers. When meeting with the personal trainer Barry for the initial "session", he took me through a very brief workout that used the treadmill and then a lot of freestanding equipment in a back room - then he sat me down to sign me up for ongoing personal training sessions. Still feeling very uneducated and under pressure from the trainer, I agreed to a minimal contract that would allow the trainer to continue developing my workouts and to keep me accountable. Although he asked me to check in with him at every workout (even if not a paid session), he was only there for one of my first few workouts, and seemed to be taken aback that I was checking in as he requested. At our first scheduled session (emphasis on "scheduled"), the front desk had to track him down, and then all he did was hand me a paper with a suggested workout before walking out the front door with his coworkers, leaving me to try to figure out what machines the paper was referring to. When I finally found the right machines, most of them did not even have the weights that he suggested! I never went back, and he never contacted me to find out what was wrong. All in all an epic fail.
If you are an experienced gym-goer, maybe you won't have the same issues I did, but I have heard others say that this gym does not have the equipment they are looking for in their own...
Read moreMarch 26 2025 Before you read my review please know that Max fitness has a 3rd party service they use for trainers elevate. The building owner himself called me and said he is going to personally help negotiate my situation with the company that holds the 3rd party contract. elevate. I’m very pleased with the owner Jeremy as he called me personally and we had a very genuine conversation. I am a responsible adult and know that causing a disturbance is wrong but the reason was justified $2,600 was spent with elevate for a trainer and elevate is causing the disturbance. I will turn my review to 5 stars pending the outcome. Below is my original posting
March 26 2025 Fire my trainer. Set three meetings with different people who claim to be in charge all day. They didn't even offer to use the money in other ways in their facility. I still haven't spoken to the person in charge. Some lady named Mal laughed at me as I'm losing my mind because she claims to be in charge but has no idea how to remedy anything. No refund. It's okay, I'm still in shape and will still be causing a ruckus because freedom of speech is an American right that I think I earned. Lastly, just because you've trespassed me doesn't mean I'm going away ❤️.
They had a chance now it’s gone March 31. Have been in the building 2 times now with no follow up everyone just walking past me like I still don’t have a trainer or my money so since everything is just going to keep going this way I’m sure I’ll have to go to court with elevate. Jeremey the owner was helpful to me on the phone and today I go on Facebook to adjust my review for his business and tag them in a nice post and I’m blocked. I don’t have time for the childish antics of the people he employees. Seems like a nice man himself but he needs to get his house in order. Best wishes. Keep the money elevate there’s more where...
