These guys are great. I recently moved to the Vail valley and was looking for a bike repair shop in Avon. Previously, I'd had my bike "repaired" at a few places in Denver, but always had a persistent squeaking break issue as well as a dragging rear brake. The shops in Denver would always tell me it would cost a fortune to replace the brakes on my bike and that it wasn't a viable option. As such, they would "repair my brakes", "bleed the brakes", "align the rotors", "straighten the bent rotors", etc. the real answer, which I always thought to be the case, was confirmed by High Gear - just replace the stupid old Hayes brakes and stop messing with it / spending money on it... superior new brakes can be had for a reasonable cost.
Look, I'm not exactly competing in any mountain bike races. I just wanted my used bike that I bought to work well and actually get fixed. I hated always having a dragging rear brake. So, I was excited at the prospect of putting new brakes on my bike. I was even more excited by the quite reasonable cost and the very fair recommendation to throw some SRAM Level brakes on there. The shop told me that they are inexpensive, work great, and for my ability level, would be more than adequate. They were right. While they were at it, they replaced the rotor (which I always thought was bent but no previous bike repair shop would confirm that) and also replaced a shifting cable that needed some love.
The bottom line is this - this bike repair shop is honest, fair, and didn't upsell me something I didn't need like carbon fiber brakes or some such thing. They were happy to help me get back to having a rideable bike at a very reasonable cost. They have a nice, well kept shop, and their employees were friendly and helpful (a welcome change from the snooty pretentiousness I often experience in other bike shops). If you're looking for an Avon Bike shop, these guys would be my first suggestion.
Keep us the good work guys. I'll certainly be back....
Read moreI went in just to discuss my options and the price range I was in as I was generally interested into getting back into mountain biking. It has been over a decade since my last mtn bike purchase and I was overwhelmed with the r&d that has come into the industry during that time. I knew I wanted to get into a bike I could grow into instead of grow out of but I also had a limited budget.
Eric, the shop's sales team member, who helped me out was informative and helpful in getting me into a bike that I will undoubtedly love and use for years to come. I had such a great experience as a customer, to have a shop sell you what you want instead of trying to push you into a higher priced item. With that being said I made a purchase when in fact all I had in mind was trying in a few bikes.
As a customer service oriented person myself, I can have nothing but love for business models that operate with transparency and values. These guys already have a good reputation in the valley as a good place for service but I can tell you they don't slack on the sales side either. Head in for a chat with any team member and you'll understand what I'm talking about. I have nothing but kuddos for this shop and the...
Read moreExcellent customer service both times I've gone in. I went in recently to get a spare tube and Paul helped me find a tube size that would work, explained how to improve the stem longevity with more frequent tire pressure checks/airing, and noticed that my bike was missing a rear derailleur hanger. When he didn't have the part on hand he called up Venture Sports to see if they had the part. They did and I was able to get the part and made it to my group ride on time thanks to the great cooperation between the shops. I really appreciate High Gear's focus on customer service even if that means sending a customer to...
