Going Underground Records — Local services in Bakersfield

Easily one of the best local record stores I have been to, especially for the area. If you like punk and hard to find rock albums, this is your go to destination. If you prefer other genres the selection may sometimes be a tiny bit smaller, but if you spend sometime looking I guarantee you will find something you need. The owner is very helpful and I have never had a negative experience with the staff, no matter what some other reviewers say. I mainly collect Hip Hop and I have found most other local stores and shops in other towns don't carry anywhere near the selection they have here. They also buy records and always quote a fair price. I bought a couple records online, they both had unacceptable levels of noise. I emailed the store with an audio file and received no reply. I followed up with another email after waiting for some time for a reply. I really don't like returning records, I understand it hurts the retailer. But, when the overall quality is poor, I return/exchange. Most good record stores understand that taking care of their customers will lead to more sales and a good relationship. I started buying my records here recently. They have a vast selection of genres and artists. The records I've gotten so far have all been in good condition. They have older stuff (think Beatles and earlier) as well as newer artists (Tame Impala etc). They sell both LPs and 45s (I have no idea if they sell 78 RPM records). They also have some turntables available for purchase. I was impressed with their collection of movie soundtrack LPs and hope to see more of it in the future.
