Wow. I can't remember the last time I felt so disrespected. I went in looking for a women's backpacking pack for an upcoming week-long trip. I asked the front register attendant if the women's packs were separate from the men's since I only saw men's packs on the shelf. He told me they were mixed and that I could only tell the difference by looking at the tags. I pointed out that they were 8 ft in the air and I couldn't reach. He handed me a pole and said " you can reach." And then walked away. So I took my pole and poked through the osprey bags to see if I could find an Aura or other women's bag. They only had osprey, and I know all the women's brands of osprey so it should have been easy. They didn't have any, so I went back to the register, handed over my pole and said thanks, but it looks like they didn't have any bags. A female sales rep said that was untrue and went to get another attendant who she said knew more. A third person showed up and asked what I was looking for. I said I wanted a women's bag and he told me those didn't exist. I said they most certainly did and that he appeared to not have any. I then mentioned the name of a couple of osprey women's bags that I was looking for and they did not have. He asked me if I could even name the difference between a women's bag and a men's bag and so I proceeded to tell him about the difference of torso size and different padding that a woman's bag would need based on the anatomy of how women held weight. He then grabbed a tag on one of the osprey bags, flipped it over and told me that because it did not say men's on it, it was clearly unisex and that proved that there were only unisex bags. I honestly have no words. I have been backpacking for multiple decades and to be told that there is no such thing as a woman's backpacking bag and that I don't know what I'm talking about when I'm trying to get help purchasing one is something that I did not expect to experience at a store specializing in camping. I'm honestly not even sure what the point of the third agents comments to me were. I should have just left when I was...
Read moreStopped in here to look for shoes for my wife and the store was incredible well stocked with a great diversity of interesting things. The backpack selection and shoe selection were honestly better than even my local rei back home. I was a bit disappointed in the glove and beanie selection (non existent) and I was gonna take away a star for that but there was an employee so attentive, so friendly, and so knowledgeable that he single handedly compeled me to even write a review. If you are looking for shoes, Blake is the guy to go to. He was amazing and even though he was helping like 6 different people he didnt falter even once. Give this...
Read moreNot size inclusive. I am a size 8 (10 if I want a looser fit for hiking) and went there looking for a pair of shorts and was surprised that I could not find anything above a women’s size 10. How am I on the upper end of their options?? I know MANY outdoorsy women who are larger than me — and I am not big to begin with — and it pains me that they would not feel welcome in one of Bar Harbor’s only outdoor apparel shops. I live locally and would love to support a local business, but...
