The Rock and Art Shop — Local services in Bar Harbor

My husband and I are on vacation this week to celebrate some things and to decompress from busy Boston life. I was super excited to go into this store but quickly became uncomfortable. While shopping, I’m not sure if this person worked there or not, they were leaning over the counter talking to employees about various topics. Honestly, didn’t bother me at all until this person VERY loudly started talking about cancer and cancer patients dropping dead. Literal exact words. My mother in law is currently going through cancer herself and my husband became so upset he needed to leave the store. Whether or not customers are going through cancer themselves, know someone who is or not, it is not professional OR kind to very loudly talk about topics in a workplace. Not to mention, most people in that store are trying to relax because they are on vacation. Upon checking out, I very kindly told the cashier I had a suggestion which they did not seem thrilled about. I had shared that the person talking about cancer in the store should keep comments to themselves as it has upset my husband, and could have upset others including cancer patients. The cashier just looked at me and said nothing. 10/10 do not appreciate the comments, lack of even hearing a “I’m so sorry about that; thank you for your suggestion.” I bought two items and will be returning them tomorrow. We were trying to shop small/local in support of businesses, but this just left a disgusting feeling...

Completely horrible I used to be a long time customer every year I’d come up and would always go out of my way to visit what I thought was a store different from all the tourist traps but is even worse I was just about to purchase an air plant clearly marked 8$ when I go up to checkout the employee says it’s 15$!! I was aghast, I took the woman over and showed her the 8$ sign there wasn’t even one that said 15$ she just said “that shouldn’t be there” and scoffed like it was my fault like I wrote an 8$ sign brought it into the store took the 15$ sign off and slapped my sign onto the table what a scam no apologies for what was clearly a human error and it really does suck because I was going to spend 32$ the next day on a cool leather journal but not after this... and I even found the Etsy seller who makes them and sells the exact same ones for less! I came here today with the intention of buying one of their bigger taxidermy pieces and decided to leave after the employees at the front were super rude to me and my boyfriend. We asked a very valid question about one of the pieces and they both rolled their eyes at us and talked to us like we were stupid. My nephew had been in the store after we had left and witnessed a different couple buying something and those same employees were super rude and after they left my nephew heard them say “stupid tourists”.
