Over 80 hallmark ornaments some over 30 years old. (Picture) This year 2024 season, we were late on getting this years ornaments & went into the Hoffman Estates location to get ornaments and when checking out we asked if we can return them. We were told yes you have 30 days. This was Dec 18th. We found better hallmark ornaments at a different store. On Dec 30th when we go to return them I was told “oh no, we don’t return them it says so right here, the bottom of the receipt.” I told them what was said at check out. But was still told no. I asked for the manager. She then says “no, it says so at the bottom of the receipt.” I said I know but was told we could, the manager then said “I didn’t train my employees right” So because you didn’t train them right and no signs posted I can’t return these ornaments. But then was told I can exchange for something in the store as a one time courtesy. Then we called corporate and spoke to 2 different people and a manager to be told no and that they were backing the store. So to clarify, we asked if they can be return told yes, but then AFTER we paid on the receipt it says we can’t and the employees were NOT trained so we have to lose $50 or find something else in store. This is CRAZY! This store is rude and incompetent. I never want another hallmark ornament again, due to this experience at the store and at corporate! I understand what the receipt says, I understand rules, but why not make a customer happy and want to come back. Hallmark store are becoming few to none, I wonder why? Overpriced and doesn’t care about customer. Look at company’s that are thriving, they try everything to make the customer happy. Hallmark will be the next Party City, Big Lots, Sears, Joann’s, so on…unless they start to care more. But who am I just one customer not going to make a difference, so hopefully my words will. I reserved an ornament weeks ago. They called on a Friday to say it was in. I went to pick it up on Saturday and they had already sold it. Explanation was that I did not call them back. I walked to the checkout with full hands and no help or offerings to. No one told me deals or specials. The 2 employees there were talking behind the counter and barely acknowledged me.
