I went in to purchase a firearm as a gift. Prior to going to the store, I did my research to ensure it was possible. I was told by a local Academy by phone it could be purchased as a gift as well as another local gun shop and that I would have to do a background check. Upon reaching the counter, I was assisted by Billy who immediately asked if the gun was for myself or someone else. I advised I was purchasing as a gift. Billy said he could not do it and that the person it was for had to be there. I explained I already called and was told I could. I explained Texas laws allows a gun to be given as a gift so long as the person it is given to could pass a background check. Billy called for his manager Raymond who tried to tell me the same thing. He then allegedly called Academyâs firearm compliance who allegedly also stated I could not buy it as a gift. I asked for the firearm compliance individuals name but he stated he could not give it to me and referred me to call Academy customer service. I asked for their policy which states the gun could not be purchased as a gift which Raymond could not produce. I also called another Academy location while there and was told by that location I could purchase as a gift. Raymond spoke to this employee and proceeded to tell him I couldnât and suggested they too contact firearm compliance. I even made it clear to Raymond that I knew background checks would have to be done under my name and the person I was buying it for had previously bought a gun from Academy. Raymond told me I could buy a gift card or bring him in. A gift is generally done with an element of surprise which was the end goal with the actual item in hand. I left the store feeling frustrated and discriminated against. I chose this Academy because it is close to my home. I will no longer shop at this store. Either way I went to Crosshairs Texas who sold me the firearm which they also confirmed it could be bought as a gift and buying firearms as a gift was not uncommon. They also gave me some free swag with my purchase. Thank you...
Read moreI went to purchase a cannon safe. after speaking with a sales rep, i decided on the one i wanted, the sale rep checked and assured me there was a new one in the back and i would not have to take the floor model, i agreed and payed for the safe. Before leaving the store, I noticed that they had not charged the correct amount, it was less, I pointed it out to the sales rep who checked it out and assured it was correct, i continued to insist that it was wrong and did not want the wrong 500lb safe delivered , i wanted to pay the correct amount, an assistant manger arrived and checked and said, yes the price was wrong, but they had made the error and would deliver the correct one for that price, and that there were 4 in the box in the back, i continued to insist on fixing it, on delivery day, i was informed that i would be getting a floor model with store damage, i refused to accept it and was given quite the run around on the whole deal telling me that it was the only one they had, i did not accept it, the whole ordeal was wrong on academy's part, then it was another ordeal to get it refunded to my credit card, attached to the receipt was a sticky note that said "take it or leave it, refund only", and on top of all that, they offered me 4 - $ 5.00 certificates off each visit, really, talking about honesty and integrity.....thanks but no thanks, i would not recommend any large purchases at this store, I'm not sure who reads these, but I hope the corporate office would contact me, their service dept and managers have a lot to learn when it comes to...
