Kyoto VS Volcano If you were not aware, there is a new player in town for Asian cuisine. As a long-time customer of Kyoto, I wanted to give the new kid on the block a shot. First, in terms of cleanliness, presentation, and friendly service, both Kyoto and Volcano are about equal. The location has a more modern vibe, but I like the atmosphere at Kyoto. Kyoto's sushi chefs seem more serious about their craft. (I've never seen a sushi chef on their cellphone behind the counter...unlike Volcano). In terms of the cuisine, I will put the winner and notes. I opted for a bento box to get a well-rounded experience and not just one item. Wonton Soup: This one goes to Kyoto. Volcanos wonton soup is alright but has the Bastrop water (chlorine) aftertaste. They should consider using filtered water. Miso Salad: solid tie... both very basic iceberg lettuce sitting in water with miso dressing on top. Egg Roll: Both are very close, but if I had to choose, this one would also go to Kyoto. Just personal flavor preference, no real complaint here. Crab Cheese Puff: This one goes to Volcano. The puff was light and delicious. Kyoto's is decent but this one was better. Broccoli Chicken: This dish at Volcano was better than any chicken dish I've had at Kyoto, and I've had a few. Hands down. The clear winner. Yellowtail Jalepeno Roll: Kyoto for sure, quality is always consistent and always good. The flavor of the Roll at Volcano was okay, but the texture of the fish was very mushy and off putting. I only finished two pieces of the Roll then gave up. My synopsis is that Volcano is likely a better option if you're aiming for Asian, and not specifically sushi. I will try it again, and for sure, this will become the Tuesday option when the craving strikes and Kyoto is closed. Hope this helps!

Restaurant Review: Volcano – A Culinary Eruption in Bastrop, Texas Bastrop’s food scene just got a fiery new addition with Volcano, an Asian cuisine hotspot located in the shopping center between Chick-fil-A and Double Dave’s. Specializing in authentic ramen and exquisite sushi, this restaurant is already making waves among locals and food enthusiasts alike. The moment you step inside, the ambiance sets the tone for a memorable experience. Volcano combines sleek, modern design with warm, inviting touches that make it perfect for a casual lunch or dinner outing. The ramen is the star of the show. Each bowl features a robust, flavorful broth that simmers for hours to achieve perfection. Whether you choose the creamy tonkotsu, the savory shoyu, or the spicy miso, the noodles are cooked to the perfect bite, and the toppings—like tender pork belly and marinated eggs—are nothing short of sublime. Volcano’s sushi menu is equally impressive. Fresh, meticulously prepared, and artfully presented, the sushi rolls and sashimi here are a true treat. The Volcano Roll, a house specialty, combines bold flavors with a spicy kick, while the delicate salmon nigiri practically melts in your mouth. Service at Volcano is outstanding. The staff is knowledgeable, welcoming, and quick to offer recommendations tailored to your taste. Prices are fair, considering the premium quality of the ingredients and the care put into each dish. Whether you’re a ramen enthusiast, a sushi connoisseur, or just someone seeking an unforgettable dining experience, Volcano is a must-visit. It’s a culinary eruption that’s bound to keep you coming back for more.

We went to check out this new restaurant in Bastrop and we were not disappointed! Volcano offers a great selection of entrées and appetizers for whatever you are in the mood for, ramen, Standard Chinese dishes like General Tso’s or Sesame Chicken, but then you also have an entire menu of freshly prepared sushi. I still don’t believe this place is real, having lived in NY, it’s very difficult to find really decent Chinese food in the area, (especially Bastrop) but this blew away all of my expectations. The chicken pieces were a good size (some Chinese restaurants in the Austin area offer what I can only describe as Brontosaurus bites) the ingredients tasted fresh, our meals were delivered quickly and piping hot, all in all a great experience. The atmosphere inside is very well done, giving patrons the impression they are eating in a small cafe in Japan and not in rural Bastrop, TX. Wood paneling throughout, comfortable seating (both tables and booths), and TV’s for anyone looking to enjoy their meal while watching a sporting event. Volcano also offers a range of fairly priced alcoholic beverages as well with a selection of Asian Import Beers, Sake, and Plum Wine. Between the food quality, the amazing service we had, the affordable prices, and the atmosphere, we will definitely be back often.
